"Best Tool for a home" on

Pros: Great way to reduce the clutter. I keep my bills in case of I need to go back but the filing cabinet was getting too big. Scanned all my bills into folders as PDF's and BAM! I have more room. No more filing cabinet. Great for pictures too! Unit come

Cons: Had trouble scannng something that had a "cut out" on the paper. Unit said my memory was full. On-Line help did not help. Finally realized the cut-out was making it read error.

"if you can use a fax, u can use this" on

Pros: Even our receptionist can use this. If you can use a fax you can use this product. One touch scanning takes no time. We've stopped seding faxes overseas as this is cheaper and more legible.

Cons: Will NOT scan and save as regular texts on sheet of paper as a text file. That feature only works for business card

"Fast, small, but kinda cheap adf" on by randomandy

Pros: Compact, reasonably zippy, more than adequate image quality for document archiving, comes with Acrobat Standard ($250+ value!), double sided scanning, good price for the speed.

Cons: Cheap feeder. On small batches tends to skew pages. On large batches, tends to grab multiple pages at a time and jam. So it's no enterprise scanner. It needs lots of user attention. No TWAIN support.

Summary: I've had this about a year. When feeding just a few pages, I typically have to use my hand to keep the pages from skewing out of the sheet guides and causing a twisted page scan. When feeding large stacks, unless I load it with a carefully tapered feed stack and watch it carefully, it will start grabbing multiple sheets at a time and jam or scan overlaps. It's easy to clear the jam and the documents go unharmed, but the attention it requires must be deducted from the effective speed of the scanner.

No TWAIN or ISIS support means you can't use it directly from your applications like Photoshop or PaperPort or anything. You have to do everything within Acrobat. Acrobat is very capable, but pretty clumsy with features littered everywhere in a way that is slow to slog through when figuring out how to manage things.

"Super, Fast & Simple to setup & use!" on by Squint92543

Pros: Finally I can make my small office totally digital.

Cons: Folded documents don't always scan easily.

Summary: I have been using the ScanSnap scanner three weeks. It has met all of my hoped-for expectations, scanning quickly to produce good readable copies that are easy to file on my hard drive. I scan every paper now received, even bills, filing them electronically. No more searching for lost documents. It includes Adobe's writing program, and scans both sides of a document automatically.
Stacks of sheetfed documents don't always feed well, but I suspect that is a problem with all sheet feeders. I scan with the staple holes on the top to avoid that problem, but papers fresh from the mail with folds may have to be shepherded. Clearing "jams" is easy however.

"This is the best scanner I've ever used" on by srifaey

Pros: fast, automatic paper size detection, hardly no paper jams

Cons: ScanSnap Organizer can used more features

Summary: great scanner. no problems. although i would like to see more features in the include ScanSnap Organizer software like:

    - faster filing: the software is too slow when moving files from one folder into another.
    - better user interface.
    - ability to sort and categorize files by date/type/keyword/ etc...
