"Great Printer with Duplex for Short Money" on by lenow

Pros: Fast, Good Paper feeds, bright color prints, duplex

    Cons: Lack of postscript

Summary: For $649 (after $150 Staples rebate), this is a great printer. Printing at 25 ppm with a duplexer, no other printer can touch this value. Set up was very easy, use on my Mac with 10.4.9 was a snap. Multipurpose tray handles my office letterhead and envelopes easily. I looked at all of the color laser printers, incluiding the HP (twice the price for similar features) and nothing comes close. The one big problem for professional graphics folks is the lack of postscript recognition.

"Great Printer" on by Richard Spagna

Pros: Fast and quiet operation, quick first page, good customer service

    Cons: Long footprint

Summary: I currently have several color laser printers. This printer prints the best color photos and black text. It is quick to the first page even when it has to warm up from the power saver mode. It is very quiet compared to the other printers that I use. I would recommend it highly for personal or small workgroups.

"Excellant print quality but high cost consumables" on by Tom McKinney

    Pros: Excellant print quality

    Cons: High cost consumables

Summary: I was impressed when this machine was demonstrated to me. However the dealer did not tell me that all of the consumables including the fuser have a user life controlled by the printer. The toner has a chip which must be replaced instead of reset if you choose to refill the cartridge. The transfer belt, fuser and image drum have a fuse which will blow forcing you to replace them even though they still work fine and have not failed. This I believe to be deceptive because it is not contained in their advertising. The control panel is so designed and programed so the user can not choose to shut off this function. Therefore your real overall cost is increased dramatically.

"Excellent color, fast in the small office; Variety of papers and weights. So far, great!" on by ChapJohn

Pros: Easy set-up. Colors are good, NOT WAXY (yet!) Easily shifts paper sizes and weights and prints all well.

Cons: Colors tricky to balance. This machine is HEAVY! Duplex sometimes jams on heavy, glossy paper.

Summary: Pricey at $799, but works well in our small office. What are color swatches? Manual says use them to adjust color? Buy a PhotoShop-type program to adjust photos. This is our unit's second week -- finished one run of glossy 32 lb paper brochures. We are very satisfied, so far! Pretty fast, too!
