"An amazing well rounded printer. Great for those photo freaks, and simple enough for the starters." on by nads07s

Pros: Slide reader, DuraBrite Ultra Ink. Made by EPSON..expect a great product.

Cons: A little pricy, somewhat larger than the cx6600 even though this is the replacement model of that.

Summary: I thought this printer is amazing. Before i bought this, i got the Epson stylux cx4800 and it was also great. With the 7800, it has the same great scanning and printing resolution/speed, but it adds the features of an LCD screen, and the negatives/slide reader. Even though this machine has more buttons than the 4800, the screen makes it soo easy to use. A dummy could use this to get professional KODAK quality. Who would have thought that you could get something like this from an ink jet printer. I scanned a calander photograph, shrunk it and printed it on photo paper, it was as good as if i took a picture with an expensive camera and got it developed professionally.
This is an excellent machine and it will last a long time in a household.
I extremely love the Dura Bright ink. Its the next best thing and almost equal to a lazer printout. NO MORE HIGHLIGHTER SMUDGES!!!
    This gets a 10.

    "Noisy, clogs." on by nlfatech

Pros: Does what I wanted it to do, almost.

Cons: Noisy, heads clogged, no print server

Summary: I was looking for a good all-in-one printer that would allow family members to print from other printers and to copy/scan without having to logon to my computer. I was also looking for something that would print photos and term papers with good quality. This printer seemed to fit the bill.

The printer it replaced was an HP 970C, which was the latest in 15 years worth of HP printers that I've used at home; it was on the network as a standalone device via an HP print server.

The first thing I found with the CX7800 was that any bidirectional functionality was lost when trying a USB print server. So, after a struggle, I returned to simply making it a shared printer attached to my primary computer. Not great, but we can live with it.

I then listened to complaints from family members of how "noisy" it is, especialy when initiating a print job. Not for the faint of heart sitting nearby, it seems to jump, startled into its task. But printing is relatively quick.

Draft mode is made for ink efficiency it seems. Draft documents turn out extremely light and squintable, using the barest amount of ink.

What stunned me--after 15 years of not once having a printing head issue with HP printers--was the blue and yellow heads becoming completely clogged after a mere three weeks' use. The printer is used several times daily, so it isn't an issue of disuse. It took four cleaning cycles to clear the head almost completely (each one using up the ink supply, according to Epson)--and there was still one remaining gap in the blue sample print.

So my initial results are mixed, but somewhat disappointing given that I looked at this as a higher end inkjet solution to my family's needs.

"No more Epsons for me. Stay away...." on by Shrew44

Pros: Nice features, it's quick, LCD preview screen, great scanner.

Cons: Poor ink flow, clogs, pics not as crisp as I expected & noisy.

Summary: It only took 8 days for the nozzles to clog on this one. I've had 2 Epson printers in the past and they both suffered the same problem. The color ink distribution system clogs and ruins the photo printing experience. Everything using black prints great, unfortunately, I didn't buy it to use only black ink.

The only thing I'm happy about is that this happened in time for me to get my $$ back. I knew that Epson was notorius for the ink flow problems, but I liked this product so well that I gave them another chance, but it didn't work out.

The first 3 or 4 color print sessions went fine. Then I tried to print some pics of fish for my daughter's school project and the blue ink wouldn't come out. So I reluctantly used the head cleaning feature in the printer. After 2 cylces I was able to get an average print with a few lines throught it, but it was far from good and it sucked almost 25% of the ink from ALL the cartridges, not just the blue. So I can see this machine being a huge ink hog just to get average pictures.

I like everything else about the machine, really. But the nice features and functionality(expect color printing) are not enough to make up for the ink problem. Because if it doesn't print correctly, then all the other features are a waste.

"very nice... photos,scans...negative scans" on by aaron8484

Pros: quick .... beautiful prints.... scans negavtives

Cons: really none except the lcd can only be seen at couple viewing angles

Summary: i first bought the Canon mp500 and ip6600 combo for my home to scan and the ip6600 as just photo printer.... well i seen people say this about the CX7800 that its heads clogg but hte canon's clogged beyond repair it got so bad that after 5 cleanings i called canon they told me to run the print head under water lol.. well it didnt work i had canon replace them both because i only owned them for about 8 months then i sold them on ebay lol and bought the Epson R340 and Cx7800 combo.... so far after about 4 months never had one clog i wonder if the people that bought the cx7800 used epson cartridges because epson uses pigmented ink and if you buy off brand cartridges they are usually dye which is a totally different supstance and gives worse quality prints and causes head clogging... but even people who this and had head cloggings was able to clean it with the head cleaning rather then with canon it was just junk after the clogg.... for the guy who said he never had an Hp clogg its because HP's older printers had the head built onto the cartridge so you threw it away with every new cartridge but since Hp is goin to individual cartridges instead of single because of print quality i assure they will have the same problems if not more.... Epson cx7800 breakdown is its has much better photo quality then HP anything because hp's are at 4800x1200 dpi which is the lowest on the market and thier new "vivera" ink is not waterproof or fade proof the only thing thier printers have is speed...the Canon Mp500 is a little higher then the Epson in DPI but tend to be very inconsistant whereas sometimes if i had an orange shirt on the canon would make it red... and photos i printed on the mp500 when i had it have already started to fade... thankyou canon and your dye ink... the epson's pigmented ink is by far the brightest and clearest its waterproof and is proven to last over 50 years ... and the epson was the only one who would let me scan negatives so i can make them 4x6's again... thankyou

"Stay away for home office use" on by kathyll

    Pros: smaller than previous models

Cons: Slow B/W copying, no percent adjustment, poor copy quality adjustment

Summary: By the way, this printer is a 4-ink printer, not 6-color as stated above.

I am a previous owner of the Epson CX3200 which I loved. It was a good printer for a home office. It printed good quality color prints. Speed varied per quality level, which you could choose. It made fast B/W prints, and fast B/W copies. You could enlarge and reduce in 1 percent increments. And you could adjust the copy quality by increments like a regular copier. It did decent scans, and the software was easy to use. Unfortunately, it died, and parts were no longer available.

So I bought the 7800, expecting the same features, and more. Unfortunately, I am very disappointed. Disappointed enough to write a review to hopefully spare someone else the same disappointment. Some of my most useful features have been removed. Copy quality SUCKS (gray not black) and copies are slow. The ink jets seem to clog more often. It is not as elegant and attractive as other Epson printers. They have slowed down the speed of B/W printing and copying in order to speed up color printing. But the color printing is not that noticably faster if you are printing for quality. The B/W slower speed is frustratingly noticable.

I hope that they come out with an all-in-one good for home-office use again. Listen-up Epson!
