"A small wonder - Splurge yourself, go for it!" on by marie-helene

Pros: Sleek, small, fast and work wonderfully. Excellent printer, excellent scan and copy fonctions, enven print double side. Love to have only 2 cartridges to change (so less fuss)

Cons: Did'nt found any yet. Wish canon give more info about High capacity cartridges...

Summary: This is not my first Canon, I used them for years and they seem indestructible. I get this MP 450 from Amazon, before it get on the market, and just love it. It is a beautiful little thing, sleek and shiny in black and silver, white a nice adjustable LCD in full colour.

This multifunction is quite small (nice feature if you don’t want to clutter your work space) and it does everything his big sister do (I had the huge mp 780 which I was not so found of). The MP 450 works nicely, smoothly and even faster. Scans and copies are sharp and clear, printing is crisp, it's a real pleasure to use.

Often one says it’s better to have a cartridge for each colour, I am not so sure: when one is empty, the others follow shortly after. I love having just 2 cartridges to watch and manage (dealing with 4 or 5, you're always running at the shop unless you store a lot). By the way it is really a two (2) cartridges printer (event though I read otherwise on some websites. Furthermore, every time you change one of these, you get a new head, (that means sharp printing). But, even with that, the ink cost is quite low, a very important feature for me as I print a lot of text. It even "duplex print, so you use both side of paper. Furthermore, included are two high capacity cartridges , but I didn’t compared theses the regular ones, or found any info on theses, but this is a nice little plus.

Photo and colour printing are astounding, you can modify the setting to your own tastes. The software bundle is full of nice surprises, like Arcsoft photo suite, which reassemble a little to Photoshop but is far much easier to use) , and two scanner utilities.

So I am very glad to have wait for the MP 450. And hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do. Good luck!

"If photos are all you want..." on by beam85

    Pros: nice photos

Cons: Can't print on envelopes without jams

Summary: Well I gave this thing a try for 3 days and it went back. It prints allright but the paper feeder jumps the paper out of line before it feeds. If you use # 10 size envelopes they tend to get jamed every time. I think Canon needs to spend less time on the Photo aspect of there Printers and look at the basic things people look for in a all in one.

"Great features for the cost." on by gladu2

Pros: Does a lot of functions and has a small footprint.

Cons: Doesn't have individual ink tanks for each color.

Summary: Australia CNET staff reviewer states it has a autofeed scanner. It definately has a flatbed scanner, much better for photos.
Just bought one for my son for Christmas. There's three colors in the color cartridge. My more expensive canon printer has 5 individual color tanks (photo cyan and photo magneta, the 2 extra) which I believe could out perform this printers photo quality and waste less ink. These new inks in the MP450 are suppose to make 100 year archival photos, so that's a plus. The high capacity color cartridge has 7 ml. of ink per color and the lower capacity cartridge has 4 ml. of ink per color. Office Max had both cartriges and the difference in cost was about $10 more for the high capacity catridge which was $38 but only $29 on **********. Canon printers do much better with thier own brand of photo paper. I think this is a great value for this printer, it's a sweet spot for someone on a budget who wants quality, compactness and ease of use.

"Fantastic, but it sucks ink!" on by indnajns

Pros: Compact, clean, quick, great scans, easy to use.

Cons: Goes through cartridges like there's no tomorrow.

Summary: I really like this unit, in spite of the ink problems. It eats ink cartridges like there's no tomorrow. I print some, I don't print alot. I don't print photos. I print mostly documents and some pics for the kid. Cartridges were lasting TWO MONTHS. That's ridiculous for the small amount of printing I do. I've had printers where the cartridges lasted nearly a year. Unfortunately, I let the warranty run out before getting it to the repair center. Didn't matter, the techs couldn't figure out what was wrong with it anyways. I asked them how could they not see? Every page you printed had ink smears at the top from piled up ink inside the printer. Needless to say, I didn't get it fixed. So I brought it home and tore it apart myself. There was Ink Everywhere. The techs must've been blind. The cartridges park on "stone" pads, not rubber like every other printer. There's also some kind of tube system hooked under each landing pad, like Canon knows the cartridges are going to ooze, so they suck it up and put it somewhere. I cleaned two cartridges worth of ink out of the bottom of the printer (all the while fuming about $30 cartridge costs and waste) put yet one more cartridge in, and printed. I keep the ink cleaned out and now it prints faintly and with lines sometimes, good others. I'd love to replace this with the Canon MP600, but if it has the same problem with cartridges (and it's made by Canon, why wouldn't it?) I wouldn't take it if they gave it to me. Anybody else have this problem? Or understand the 'hoses under the cartridge' setup?

"A solid, inexpensive all-in-one" on by nikeswooshguy

Pros: Excellent/print scan quality, LCD screen, solid design

Cons: Larger than you might think, no USB cable in box

Summary: This is a nifty all-in-one from canon, loaded with features at a reasonable price. As a student, I was looking for something that could compactly print, scan and copy documents without having to pay a bundle, and felt that the MP450 was just the pick.

The features, interface and quality are all excellent aside for a few minor gripes. Canon's built in memory card reader works without a hitch, allowing you to print directly from the printer sans PC, and can also be used as a memory card reader by your computer. But I have a few gripes. Firstly is the deceptive sizing. Canon's measurements are for the unit's footprint, when in reality, the unit curves outward in front, making the total depth occupied by the unit a good 6 inches deeper than the specification implies. This probably won't be a problem for most people, but for a student considering such units on the merits of size for a cramped dorm, i would advise at least considering other products. The color LCD screen should have a greater viewing angle, and while it can be angled slightly, it was still difficult to view the screen when the printer was on a low table.
