"video upconversion worth the money" on by nroberts12

    Pros: 1080p, HDMI output

    Cons: none that matter

Summary: DVDs upconverted to 1080p look unbelievable on my Sharp LCD TV. My wife and I continually remark on details in movies we've seen many times that we missed when watching in standard definition. I have found the picture to be detailed, sharp and vivid through HDMI. Hard to imagine that such a picture is available at this price. CDs sound great when played with this unit, the sound much fuller than on my old JVC DVD player.

While the unit felt light out of the box, build quality is evident in every other way and the unit is attractive. I like that it has the essential functions on the unit face, as so many components these days make you use the remote for every little thing. I/O in the back of the unit is clearly labeled and logically spaced to increase ease of hook-up.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with the look and performance of this unit.

"Outstanding picture quality" on by Galley

    Pros: 1080P upconversion, Denon quality

Cons: No CD-Text or SACD-Text, no SACD over HDMI

Summary: This is my first Denon product after using Sony gear for 15 years. The picture quality is superb, even better than the Oppo 970. The only negative things I can say about it are the lack of text support, and you the fact that you cannot transmit SACD audio over HDMI, because it does not support the HDMI 1.2 spec. It's annoying that you can only change the resolution via the HDMI button on the player itself. If you watch Full Screen DVDs, (such as TV sets), you'll need to switch the player to 480P, otherwise your monitor may stretch the image to fill the screen.

"Some fantastic sound and video." on by norsedoc

Pros: There are a lot of DVD players that do a good job. Video on this machine is better than most, but the sound is what is so impressive.

Cons: You have to do some minor adjustments from DVD to SACD 5.1.

Summary: I bought this player because I have been so satisfied with my Denon AVR 2807. I really did not know exactly what SACD was before my purchase. This unit plays about every format available, but I was really impressed with the SACD. I can't belive the difference in the sound from standard CD to SACD. Now, I'm listening to classical, country, even some rock music I never listened to before. It is all so incredible. Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms" blew my mind. I hope this format thrives. A company named Acoustic Sounds has a great inventory. This player has increased my listening pleasure tremendously. If you have a good 5.1 setup, I would invest in this player.

"Awesome DVD Player" on by jcc7

Pros: HDMI, Progressive Scan, Faroudja DCDi

Cons: Only 2 MB Buffer Memory.

Summary: This is a great high end entry level dvd player for your home theatre. The price is right and the sound, picture and features are jaw dropping. By far one of the easiest players to use and setup. Hooking up my player via HDMI looks great on my plasma screen. I tried the componet and it looks great too but not as good as the HDMI. There is a big difference in the picture quality especially in the black areas when using HDMI. Other than that, this is a very solid unit.

"Worst DVD player I've ever owned" on by lac8961

    Pros: Looks cool

    Cons: Doesn't work

Summary: Typically about half-way through a movie, this DVD player stops working. The picture pauses, sometimes pixelates, and sometimes it skips entire sections of the DVD before it plays again. You have to constantly pause, rewind, or fast forward the DVD to get it to play again, then it works for about 2 seconds before it stops again. Sometimes you have to stop the DVD altogether, start it over, then find the scene where you left off. It makes watching a movie the most painful experience ever. I'm tempted to throw it outside ... then run over it with my car. Infuriating.
