"Great Overall Performance" on by rosewoodat5th
Pros: Excellent Picture w/HD sources, Great Sound, & love the Piano Black finish
Cons: Expensive... But at least the performance makes it worth it.
Summary: I love this TV! Sharp Aqous allows for a lot of tweaking with the picture and has more than enough inputs (although it would be nice to have 2 hdmi inputs).
The black finish looks great anywhere especially in your tv room! The side mounted speakers offer surprisingly rich sound with a virtual surround mode.
Spent a lot of time looking for a 37 flat panel at in thr end this model stood above the rest. In the end it came between the panasonic 37 plasma HD and this sharp... due to the bright room and benefits of LCD I chose the Sharp LC37D4U... and I don't regret my decison one bit.
If your looking for a great performing TV that is midrange in size look no further than this unit. -
"Great television!" on by topdoc
Pros: Superb picture, great features, lots of inputs
Cons: No clock or wake up timer
Summary: Have had this TV for about five days. Spent a few months researching 37 inch flat panel HD TVs and kept coming back to the Sharp Aquos line because of the superb picture and features. I am not disappointed in my purchase. The screen looks great from any angle, even at 170 degrees away from center.
HD broadcasts look superb, even at factory default settings. Other than turning up the bass a bit, turning on the virtual surround-sound feature, customizing the screen font/characteristics, and turning on the OPC/DL feature (that allows the brightness to automatically adjust with room lighting), I really haven't changed any other settings. Picture looks great in any kind of lighting.
Even analog TV looks good on this unit, as long as you aren't standing too close to it. The TV has a great "Smart Stretch" feature that somehow displays 4:3 analog broadcasts on the full 16:9 screen without causing significant noticeable distortion or picture cropping. I'm not sure how this is accomplished, but it is impressive, esp. compared to stretching techniques used by other brands or cable boxes.
I avoided a plasma screen unit because of the possible "fading" problem over time. Despite the reputation that LCDs have about poor black levels, I find this set's black level to be fine, living up to its high contrast ratio (even for an LCD).
The Aquos line of HD TVs is more expensive than most other flat panel LCDs, but in my opinion, it is worth the extra money. After all, how often do you buy a TV like this?
I bought this set through Amazon. They use a professional shipping company that was very nice about delivering the unit and removing the packaging material. The set arrived quickly in perfect condition. -
"2 words - SHARP AQUOS - amazing quality across the board" on by ccbryant
Pros: picture, sound, design, price, remote, built in tuner - everything
Cons: hard to find and no dual HDMI
Summary: I have been stoked from the second I pulled this TV out of the box. My Xbox360 looks absolutly amazing on it, the sound totally rocks. the tuning is precise and easy to do. The remote, is awesome - all the keys light up with the touch of a button, sweet! It is so light and easy to manuever. every input you could dream of, just no dual HDMI, no biggie, but the optical sound out is a great feature. I bought an antenna to get the over the air HDTV channels, and they come in great and the setup was sooo easy, built in tuner, kicka$$ - cable card option if i decide to go with the cable companies digital cable, which is a great option if you don't want a set top box. I can't say enough great things about this TV - SHARP AQUOS - for 2300 bones - believe it - the best purchase I have ever made, well next to my 360, with the combo of the two - awesome, just awesome. It is my first LCD, so maybe I am just taken by the slim design and amazing picture out of it? maybe, but it is my 3rd HDTV - my other two are CRTs - one sony(34"vega), one samsung(30"slimfit) - i love them both, but this one has a new place in my heart - if you buy this - you won't be disapointed.

"Spectacular in nearly every aspect" on by Ramdol
Pros: Exceeded expectations
Cons: Piano blk frame annoying in daytime
Summary: Spent months researching incl C-Net (the best site bar none)based opinions. Bought from Amazon at 90% of lowest available elsewhere w/no sales tax and ONLY $40 delivery charge. Bought 4 yr service at $250 (highly recommended) also less than anyone else.
Performance as advertised. Only objection is shine on piano black frame is annoying during daytime viewing. All other aspects simply spectacular even w/standard non-HD satellite antenna and box conversion. Ordered conversion from DIRECT but their installer had no clue (or materials) how to mount on roof and assure water tight. Service from DIRECT very poor.
There are many Sharp model upgrades since original AQUOS came out now several versions ago. Important to stick with AQUOS since newer models tend to be "watered" down. My LC37D4U has 1200:1 contrast and built-in HDTV tuner. Too many models are just monitors requiring either cable box or satellite tuners. If you're on cable w/o box, for example, monitors while 10% cheaper are N.G. -
"The T.V. is Excellent!!! The HD Picture quality is AMAZING!!!" on by NESNAT
Pros: Everything about this T.V is Great, Except...
Cons: the Remote, and to a degree the sound quality could be better.
Summary: I love this TV. I've had it for about 5 months now and I'm very happy with my purchase. I'm a sports junkie. If you love sports in HD, this is the TV to get. The NBA, MLB, Golf, Hockey, even the World Cup, was just unreal on this set. I can't wait for the NFL to start, I'm getting excited just thinking about it. The only off things about this TV is the remote and sound. The remote I got, is just way to sensitve. Changing the channels is a crap shoot. Tap the button and you move 10-15 channels away. I dont use that remote anyway. I use the remote from the cable company and it runs the tv fine.
Also, the sound is a bit to low. Its not horrible, but it could be better. That can be fixed with a Home Theater system, I'm soon going to get. (Can anyone recommend a decent Home Theater system in the $400-500 dollar range?)
With that said, I would give this TV an A!!!
So, Good night and good luck!!!!!!!!!
