"Great TV, only 3 weeks old but no flaws found so far. Exactly what I would expect out of Sony." on by Saint20k
Pros: Great Picture, Multiple Input types, Great Sound.
Cons: None that I have come accross
Summary: I've had this TV for about 3 weeks now and I love it. Perfect fit for my living room. Picture is clear and clean. Sound is great, background music or ambient noise in a normal TV show does not drown out the voices of the actors.
HD capability is great. Recieved HD box from Time Warner, returned 1st HD box because HDMI was not enabled on Box. Second box had HDMI available and worked great. Make sure you set the output to HDMI on the cable or Satellite box.
When setting up the Cable or Satellite box be sure to set your output HD to 720p or lower because the HD box will try to broadcast in 1080i which the TV will have a difficult time with. Not the TV's fault, though it is not designed to show 1080i format. Only thing that I noticed that would happen is that the channel would jump occasionally. -

Pros: Styling, setup
Cons: Just 1 HDMI input
Summary: Just purchased this TV so my review may be a bit early however the setup was super easy. Have it connected to my Comcast HD cable box via single HDMI input and then via cables to my DVD player but would prefer the option for a 2nd HDMI connection. Picture is very clear and bright. The customization and setup is well laid out and easy to understand. I bought this based on reviews and the Sony name and don't regret it. I chose LCD over Plasma since the room is very bright with lots of windows. Almost all noticeable glare has been eliminated that was seen on our old 32" tube TV.

"Just opened; setting up" on by kenotux
Pros: Great HD picture! Quality product.
Cons: non-HD channels not impressive
Summary: This tv is quality. The high-definition picture is amazing. I had a 44' Zenith LCD, which also had a nice picture, but I believe the Sony is better. The user menu functions are exceptional, giving you the ability to tweak the picture just so. I was disappointed that the non-HD programming does not look better, but that may be a common issue among all LCDs (or may be attributable to my cable provider, I do not know). In any event, so far so good. I am pleased with my purchase. I believe Sony also makes a slightly higher-end 1080p LCD tv, but frankly I'd save the cash. Even though it's a Sony and expect it to be a reliable tv, I did buy the extended warranty. Best Buy was a pleasure to work with.

"Great TV, Needs 2nd HDMI input" on by set2374
Pros: Picture quality is outstanding; beautiful color reproduction, no blotches or dark areas; great blacks
Cons: Below average connectivity (1 hdmi); lousy remote; not enough choices for aspect ratio and average feature set; high price.
Summary: Sony certainly is one of the benchmark produces of LCD flat panels. It's traditionally been a safe bet. This TV does not disappoint. Like most Sony designs, the set itself is asthetically pleasing. The black matte finish with only a sliver of sliver trim is a beautiful design that set's the TV apart from its competition. It is made to be hung on the wall. When you turn the TV on, the picture quality follows suit. The backlighting is excellent and there are no bright or dull spots that are prevelant on other LCD's in this size category. Out of the box, I examined the screen closely and could find no dead pixels. The color renditions are terrific. Out of the box, the set offers three default settings: vivid, standard and custom. Vivid and Standard are both adjustable, but you cannot turnoff the special preset features. Vivid is unwatchable (in my opinion) and is probably intended for use in the showrooms. I do find standard to provide a natural color scale. I don't have the ability to perform measurements of color temperature, but I would assume it's close to 6500k. I don't know how this set's default settings compare to the 40S2000 defaults, but there are complaints about the 40S2000 default for standard being unnatural. I don't find that the be the case here, but everyone has different taste.
Changing contrast ratios is the same regardless of source material (DVD, HD, Standard def). You have three choices, full (normal picture for media), zoom (crops the top and sides and zooms in on the center of the picture to give a full screen view) and wide zoon which stretches and compresses the picture so the uncropped 4:6 fits into the 16:9 aspect ration. This change affects the look and feel of the picture (everyone looks a little fatter). it would be nice to be able to control the cropping. For me this wasn't a deal breaker though.
Like all sony's, there's no picture-in-picture (a feature i never use on my other TV's). The remote is fairly basic. A little large and light to the touch. It is NOT a universal and only controls the T.V. It is also a bit of a pain to use with the cable box. I have my cable box hooked up to the t.v. through the component wires (upconverting dvd to the hdmi). If you accidentally touch change a channel on the sony remote, it automatically turns switches the video input on the tv to the t.v.'s internal tuner. You then have to scroll through the input sources to get back to the cable box source input. That's annoying!!!! It should remain on the source setting and disable the channel changing button unless you are using the t.v.'s internal tuner (which, if you have an HDTV cablebox, you will NEVER do).
Another negative, for a t.v. that entered the market at a list price of $2,200 (now msrp is $1999), this tv should come with a 2nd hdmi input. Even though this is Sony's entry level model, it should have at least the same content as the budget brands like Vizio.
(Sound is basically crappy on all t.v.s, so no need to discuss. If you're spending the money for a 40 inch LCD, plan on spending a little more for a surround sound system).
Conclusion: The feature set is less than spectacular, but all is forgiven when you see the picture. I don't care if I am missing features, if the TV itself produces a top quality picture (which it does!). -
"This is a truly great TV!" on by guppy53
Pros: Reliable, great sound, great picture even at only 60Hz/720P
Cons: None to date.
Summary: I bought this TV as a floor model from CC two years ago for my bedroom. It was in use every day for almost a year prior to coming home with me. It has worked flawlessly from day one, ?great sound? and picture at only 720P. I have looked at newer technologies and for the money you can?t beat this TV.
