"SONY's DSC T7 is one of the best I have tested in the last 5 years." on by FAU

Pros: Great image detail and color rendition - small high quality footprint

Cons: Being picky - would like a bit more power with the flash

Summary: This camera is one of the best I have tested in the last 5 years.

As an adjunct faculty member at FAU a south Florida +25,000 student university, teaching “Principles of Digital Photography” and authored/published a book with the same name, with Pearson Education, Inc., 2003, I have tested hundreds digital cameras that have been offered to the public in recent years, and this one is truly unbelievable.

One must understand that all cameras cannot do all things regardless of price and size. Digital SLRs, like Canon’s 1DsMk2, which I proudly own and consider the very best digital SLR on planet Earth, can execute most imaging tasks beautifully; however you cannot place it in your pocket, does not have built-in flash, and cannot make a video!! Comparing the image quality and color to other similarly priced cameras, both seem better than on previous SONY “T” series units (the T1, T11, T3, T33) in their five-step progression to the T7. The brightness on the LCD panel is also better and has two brightness levels; The LCD also seems to have a protective covering on its surface. The flash also seems a bit stronger, and the imager noise is lower. Understand that the tiny built-in flash is effective for groups of 3-6 people placed within 6’ or less of the camera, period; any further, other than fill-in flash and the results will be disappointing. It is hard to imagine than so much technology can be contained within this truly thin package. The large and bright LCD panel is great for sharing images with friends after the picture is taken; a suggestion for SONY is that the automated viewing (post image) is too short, internally set to about 2 seconds, and not adjustable; this should be an adjustable feature, which can be corrected by a simple SONY “firmware” upgrade.

Most critics do not make mention of the Software; Be it known SONY has one of the best (included) software packages available; Install the software one time; then plug in the camera into an available USB post, turn on the camera, and in 5,4,3,2,1 seconds the images and movies begin their migration into a unique folder in the hard-drive, with today’s date as the folder name. Could not be a simpler process.

If you want to see some T7 sample images you can go to http://www.faudigital.com/gallery/488005; Images will be added periodically so check back often; and while you’re there look around at your pleasure. JimWilson 16/Apr/2005/4pm

"A beautiful compact camera, with excellent image and video quality." on by joey2283

Pros: Size(only 9.8 mm at its thinnest), Large hybrid LCD, good manual and automatic options

Cons: Weak Flash, No battery charger in the cradle (unlike T1)

Summary: I bought a sony DSC-T1 about a month back and i was very impressed with it till i read about the launch of DSC-T7, i revieved my T7 just yesterday and extremely happy with the camera overall, be it the look of the camera or the performance. The problem with people using the T series is that they take pictures on auto setting. Here's what i did, and my pictures turned out to be beautiful and without any noise. I programmed the settings to ISO 100 and higher flash. The flash is still week, but if you make sure the subject is about 5-6 feet from the camera, then the pictures turn out fine. For outdoors and day pictures, i cant think of a better option because og its portability. Its like carrying a credit card holder, literally. I love this camera, and if you play around with it a little and read the manual before use, i don't think you can use any other camera after this.

"Cool looking camera but poorly designed" on by laszlo87

Pros: Slim Size, carl zeiss lens

    Cons: Price, battery design

Summary: While it's cool looking camera, it's poorly designed. In order to charge the battery you have to completely remove it from the camera. Unlike the T33 there's no docking station, and even if you buy the optional adapter (like I did), you can't charge the battery without removing it. This is a problem because the entire process is fragile and the battery door is very flimsy and cheap. Also, in order to transfer pictures you have to attach a supplied interface adapter. I guess the slim profile of the camera comes at a price, with it's poorly designed battery charging and picture transfer methods.

"Excelent Camera, be clear on what you want it for." on by jsrush

Pros: Portability, easy to use, great pictures.

    Cons: Little weak flash

Summary: Ok, first of all, Whats wrong with people? The person who compares this camera to those big profesional cameras is a moron.

That said, this camera rocks! I said be clear on what you want it for, heres why. I use this camera when I go hang out, partys, to the park, beach, things like that. Thats what this camera is for. Taking great pictures at places where your not going to have acces to a bigger camera.

Oh! and CNET. whats wrong with you?
Saying that around yellow flowers this camera practically sucks? This camera is for pictures with friends, family, special ocations where you want to share yous pcitures with people, your wife ect. Print them out make little photo albums, of you kids, your family. Not to make a Flower Calendar.

The first tool you need to review something is measure it with the proper scale.

And on this review You Failed.

Everybody, buy this camera, you will not regret it. Best point and shoot ive used, and ive had Canon, and Sony. This is the best Camera in its category. you will never miss a great photo.

"The answer to get a T-7" on by jonness

Pros: Small, easy navigation, awesome resolution

Cons: Can't zoom in and out during video recording

Summary: I've read so many opinions about cameras and what not. I've compared statistics with many cameras, that's how picky I was becoming. Because of this, I wanted to know which digital camera would benefit me all the way with what I want to use it for. I looked for style and quality.

Honestly, why do you want to carry a big camera when you can have the T-7 in any pocket you have or around your neck instead. The way you handle the T-7 will your hands with determine if the picture will be blurry or not. RECOMMENDED if you hold it steady, arms near your sides, press the shutter half way for it to focus, and then press all the way down. Then BOOM, you got a 5 megapixel quality picture baby! FYI, this techinque is in the manual if you never touched it, hehe.

Anyways, I love the very slimness of it. It doesn't take much space up and doesn't make your hand small when carrying it. The flash is good enough for 6 to 7 feet away. Common sense that the flash will not get far away objects to light up for you. People complain about the lens cover that turns it on and off because sometimes it slides down when they don't want it to. It's because they didn't take care of it that well, so I suggest if you REALLY LOVE your digital camera, then you know you want to take care of that baby.

At this moment I have a 1gb memory stick because I want more and who else doesn't want more right? Using the 5 megapixel option for image quality, you can have 384 still pictures and about 44 minutes of video recording time! If the video recording time doesn't seem enough, you should know that the T-7 is labeled as a CAMERA so yeah... I believe its really good and worth it.

The LCD screen is pretty good, its not small but its really big for its size. Sucks it doesn't have a view finder but that's a minor problem here. The T-7 doesn't have a lot of buttons to look for and press. It has a few and the little pictures that are next to them are helpful. For me, it seemed like an 8 year old could figure the camera out in 10 minutes. I'm over exaggerating about it, its just an expression if you know what I mean.

So if you're looking for a Digital Camera with great style and awesome quality and good features, the Sony Cyber-shot T-7 is the one.
