Horrible customer service
Pros: cheap, can get fairly good system for low cash.
Cons: bad customer service, poor screen display, finicky touchpad
I actually originally ordered the 700m. I waited for two weeks, checking the DELL website periodically, in anticipation of its arrival. When it finally shipped, I followed the tracking number (so that I could be home when it arrived and not have it left on my doorstep). For several days, the status of the shipment was listed as out for delivery. Finally, I called UPS to ask about it and they thought that was weird and that it probably thought the package was lost.
No big deal, right? They'll initiate a search and find it, right? Wrong. Apparently, if there are any shipping issues, Dell has to inquire about it. So I call Dell and told them my problem. They said that the package was schedule to arrive shortly according to their records (apparently, the UPS website would just reschedule the estimated delivery date if a package isn't delivered on the day it's supposed to be). Dell told me to wait two days. I waited two days and nothing changed on the UPS website. I called Dell again, and they told me to wait two more days. After the third cycle and being very angrily persistent, someone from DELL finally called UPS and UPS confirmed that the package was probably lost. Being really frustrated, I canceled my order.
Shortly thereafter, since I still needed a laptop, I ordered the 600m (a slightly more usable laptop for me because I have very large hands).
Everything was fine with my laptop until my display stopped working regularly. Sometimes, I would boot up my computer and nothing would appear (but the fan would run, so I suspected that the computer was running). I contacted Dell. After 2 hours of diagnosing the problem I already knew existed (including finding an external monitor), they agreed to have the computer shipped to their repair depot in Tennesse.
It took a week for the repair...a little long to be without my laptop, but somewhat understandable.
Now, the really crappy thing was, I got my laptop back and immediately noticed that my replaced LCD screen was heavily scratched on the cover. Obviously a refurbished screen. It wasn't a big deal, but a little annoying.
And then, after working on it for ten minutes, I get a Windows blue screen error. So I reboot. I get another. And another.
I contact Dell again. They make me go through 5 hours of diagnostics (some of those tests take several hours). After juggling the RAM around in the different slots, all the tests pass. So they tell me that my computer's fine.
So I get back to working on it the next day. Everything does seem to be fine. But then I start getting these Blue Screen errors again.
Turns out that Dell also put in a refurbished system board into my laptop and they also must not have properly tested the machine because now there are memory problems.
So I have to send my computer back to Dell and lose another week with it. All they can say is that they'll try to repair it properly this time.
From everything I hear about premium brands like Sony, Mac, or IBM, they'll do everything to help you out if your machine has problems and be very timely about it. Dell does not.
Bottom Line: If customer service is important to you, go elsewhere.

Motherboard died in 14 months - 2 hd replacement in 14 months
Pros: it's light
Cons: Service and Motherboard awful
I hate Dell but will probably have to bite the bullet and find the most basic 600M so I can use all the stuff I bought for it. DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE. Also Customer service is the very WORST. I don't mind that they are all from India as many companies use India for cheap labor. I do mind that their English is not clear. COme on Dell if you are going forcheap labor at least make their English understandable.

Its a great buy and a great machine
Pros: I bought a PentiumŪM Processor 745(1.80 GHz/400MHz FSB)14.1-in SXGA+ w/64MB Video with a Memory size of 1GB DDR SDRAM 2 Dimms and a Hard drive of 60GB Hard Drive
Cons: Forgot to buy an additional 2 year warranty and the order took 2 weeks to build and another 3 days to be delivered
Anyhow, this model is great. My friends have it and they have been happy. I used it before for 5 months (because the company I work for bought one) and loved it. I bought one for my self last month!
Now the reviews have been awful about the 600M, but it is because of the configurations of the machine they bought.
I have a hunch that they bought the entry level model which is the 1.6 ghz with 256 memory, if you try to play a high tech game like Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 or the other new high tech games out there, it will surely blow your machine if it doesn?t have the proper configurations to handle all that graphics. It?s like a balloon, if you bought a balloon that can only handle 10 gallons of water and you stuffed it with 20 gallons of water it will surely burst. Anyhow, I would suggest buying a higher processor and a higher memory so that if and when you run more than one program or game, you won't fry the mother board.
Oh in no way am I an employee of Dell, I have had my share of high blood pressure with their services and products, but overall I give them a 8.5-9!
Hope my input helps... TTYL

Dells Best Yet!
Pros: The 600m from Dell is really the way to go if you want to purchase a new Laptop. It has a great graphics card, sound, wireless card, and battery life. The S-Video Out lets you watch DVD's on your TV, and it has all the plugs that you will ever need. Al

Great product, performs well, good battery time.
Pros: The battery is the longest lasting out of other laptop owners I've talked to for light travel laptops. Nice size, not too small a screen and not too heavy. Fast enough for what I do, pics (adobe photoshop) presentations and email. CD burner is quick, l
Cons: Keyboard is a little soft, similiar to an Apple but I have learned to like it. Only had one problem (powering on) and tech support was SLOW, and not very helpful unless you know a bit about computers (lucky I knew what they were talking about). The tech

Read the message boards first
Pros: Weight of the unit and the graphics chip
Cons: Watch the motherboard. If you have to have a Dell, get the 3 year warrenty, the motherboard costs $699 to replace and is has a bad reputation. Price is not competitive compared with Toshiba, HP and Gateway for the features you get.

Okay for me
Pros: Value is the key word. If you pay more than $1000, you paid too much. 512 ram is a must, but buy it elsewhere as long as there is a free slot. Good graphics, but not gaming, very bright screen.
Cons: Soft keyboard, heavy for a 'lightweight'. If you are a first time laptop buyer stay away from this machine, since there is no real tech support, and there are a lot of downloads and updates you will need (bios, video, etc.)

Dell600m
Pros: The m600 is ok but it is not what I expected. It is light weight and portable but I think the quality is not what it could be. For a few extra bucks Dell could of really had a great computer.
Cons: The support system is very lame. I didn't really have a problem all I wanted was a copy of the warrenty that I paid for. I was on the phone for 2 hours and I never received it as they told me it would be mailed out to my home.Something doesn't seem right
