Motherboard and Battery Perished

Pros: Good machine...

Cons: Customer Service and Warranty

Review: 1 Year...my battery went kaput. Apparently theres a built-in charge/re-charge limitation to the batteries by Dell. Not so nice considering the cost of a single battery for the laptop. 4 months later (and a new battery) apparently my motherboard goes kaput. Both times speaking with customer service in India proved to be no fun. At one point I had the representative take a defensive stance during the call. I had to explain to the individual I was not attacking them I just want to know if I had any options. Next call directed me back stateside. At that point I was told that for approximately $700 I could ship laptop back, have it repaired and returned. For $700 I could replace the laptop with a new model. Needless to say I have a laptop sitting in case at home. One day I will get that laptop operating again but not with Dell's assistance.

Fantastic service and computer

Pros: Purchasing phone service, 600m in general

Cons: MusicMatch Jukebox

Review: I put together all the specs online, and then called to see how long the coupon online would last, and was told that if I saw a good deal online, I should take it because it may be gone tomorrow. The guy then asked if I would like him to put it together for me and see if he had any extra discounts I could use. I did just to see if it would be cheaper, and lo and behold, he ended up getting me an EXTRA $100 off, in addition to the $300 off I had seen online! Needless to say, I bought the comp then and there. I received my 600m within 1 week, and so far have had no major problems. It's run fantastically, although I've had problems with the MusicMatch jukebox erroring on me, and having to close the program, but that's nothing new, as I've always disliked that program.

Great computer for the price

Pros: fast, light, compact, and capable

Cons: difficult to set up wireless network

Review: I think that the dell 600m is a great buy. It is compact and capable (great for college students and travelers) this computer is capable of doing whatever you want it to. GREAT!

Horrible customer service

Pros: cheap, can get fairly good system for low cash.

Cons: bad customer service, poor screen display, finicky touchpad

Review: I wouldn't normally write in to do a user review, but I've just been through the worst customer service.

I actually originally ordered the 700m. I waited for two weeks, checking the DELL website periodically, in anticipation of its arrival. When it finally shipped, I followed the tracking number (so that I could be home when it arrived and not have it left on my doorstep). For several days, the status of the shipment was listed as out for delivery. Finally, I called UPS to ask about it and they thought that was weird and that it probably thought the package was lost.

No big deal, right? They'll initiate a search and find it, right? Wrong. Apparently, if there are any shipping issues, Dell has to inquire about it. So I call Dell and told them my problem. They said that the package was schedule to arrive shortly according to their records (apparently, the UPS website would just reschedule the estimated delivery date if a package isn't delivered on the day it's supposed to be). Dell told me to wait two days. I waited two days and nothing changed on the UPS website. I called Dell again, and they told me to wait two more days. After the third cycle and being very angrily persistent, someone from DELL finally called UPS and UPS confirmed that the package was probably lost. Being really frustrated, I canceled my order.

Shortly thereafter, since I still needed a laptop, I ordered the 600m (a slightly more usable laptop for me because I have very large hands).

Everything was fine with my laptop until my display stopped working regularly. Sometimes, I would boot up my computer and nothing would appear (but the fan would run, so I suspected that the computer was running). I contacted Dell. After 2 hours of diagnosing the problem I already knew existed (including finding an external monitor), they agreed to have the computer shipped to their repair depot in Tennesse.
It took a week for the repair...a little long to be without my laptop, but somewhat understandable.

Now, the really crappy thing was, I got my laptop back and immediately noticed that my replaced LCD screen was heavily scratched on the cover. Obviously a refurbished screen. It wasn't a big deal, but a little annoying.

And then, after working on it for ten minutes, I get a Windows blue screen error. So I reboot. I get another. And another.

I contact Dell again. They make me go through 5 hours of diagnostics (some of those tests take several hours). After juggling the RAM around in the different slots, all the tests pass. So they tell me that my computer's fine.

So I get back to working on it the next day. Everything does seem to be fine. But then I start getting these Blue Screen errors again.

Turns out that Dell also put in a refurbished system board into my laptop and they also must not have properly tested the machine because now there are memory problems.

So I have to send my computer back to Dell and lose another week with it. All they can say is that they'll try to repair it properly this time.

From everything I hear about premium brands like Sony, Mac, or IBM, they'll do everything to help you out if your machine has problems and be very timely about it. Dell does not.

Bottom Line: If customer service is important to you, go elsewhere.

Motherboard died in 14 months - 2 hd replacement in 14 months

Pros: it's light

Cons: Service and Motherboard awful

Review: My hard drive went bad 5 months after I purchased - Dell sent me another one after hours on the phone. That one had a ton of bad sectors and Dell recommended replacing it after it was out of warranty. I bought a new 80 gig one (not from Dell). Then my system was only powering on battery and Dell said ac adapter was bad so I bought a new one. Turns out motherboard is bad. Now I am in an awful position. I own 2 hd's 2 ac adapter maxed out in RAM and DVD all tied to 600m.

I hate Dell but will probably have to bite the bullet and find the most basic 600M so I can use all the stuff I bought for it. DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE. Also Customer service is the very WORST. I don't mind that they are all from India as many companies use India for cheap labor. I do mind that their English is not clear. COme on Dell if you are going forcheap labor at least make their English understandable.

Motherboard Crashed in One Year

Pros: Lightweight, great feel.

Cons: Cheap Motherboard; dark screen; unhelpful service.

Review: One year and two months after I purchased this computer, the motherboard went dead for no apparent reason. My bosses went dead for the exact same reason after 7 months of having his. Luckily he was still in warranty, i was not. If you are going to buy this computer, make sure you have the extended warranty, you will need it. The other bad thing, is the fact that everyone you talk to on the phone will be from India and you can't understand a word they are saying. That's no fun either when you really need help. I had to pay 475 dollars to buy a replacement motherboard that they won't give me a warranty on. Do yourself a favor and buy a good laptop, don't be swayed by the cheaper price, there's a reason it's cheap.

Wireless card never works

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: Cheap, wireless card is a disaster

Review: You get what you pay for. The wireless card in particular is a disaster - it is forever acquiring network address even tho signal strength is excellent. Compare this to our ThinkPad that boots up and immediately connects to the wireless router. Runs hot under the right palm after awhile. Has really poor battery life. Feels plastic-y and cheap. Otherwise, it's ok.

Pricey, but worth every penny!!!

Pros: Lightweight which makes it very portable, software is preloaded, Dell's website makes it very easy to customize

Cons: only 2 USB ports, having trouble using the touchpad, but maybe I just need to get better aquainted with it.

Review: I wish notebooks weren't so expensive, but I can say that buying this computer is definately money well spent. Dell's website makes it very easy to customize and it is easy to track the progress of your order. One thing that disappointed me was that you can only pay with a credit card on Dell's website. I had the money saved up, but had to borrow my dad's credit card to order it; would have been more convenient if I could have just written a check. One thing that was nice was that about a week after receiving my order Dell called me to ask how it was working and if I was having any problems; however, after I told them that I was pleased with my purchase, they proceded to try to sell me Internet access, which I had no interest in. Overall though, I am very pleased with this computer and highly recommend it, especially if you need a computer that is easy to travel with.

Its a great buy and a great machine

Pros: I bought a PentiumŪM Processor 745(1.80 GHz/400MHz FSB)14.1-in SXGA+ w/64MB Video with a Memory size of 1GB DDR SDRAM 2 Dimms and a Hard drive of 60GB Hard Drive

Cons: Forgot to buy an additional 2 year warranty and the order took 2 weeks to build and another 3 days to be delivered

Review: Dell has its pros and cons. So they have sometimes bad customer service, and you?re on hold for hours and hours and hours and hours. But almost all their products are worth holding or waiting for. They are all reasonably priced and the best deal around in my opinion. Additionally, these days they have improved their customer service department, lately when I order, I don?t have to wait so long and their staff has gotten more acclimated to their products. I actually had a problem with an order and they solved it quickly and gave me suggestions, which they have never EVER done before. Now the dell financial services on the other hand need major improvement, but again the customer service has gotten a lot better!

Anyhow, this model is great. My friends have it and they have been happy. I used it before for 5 months (because the company I work for bought one) and loved it. I bought one for my self last month!

Now the reviews have been awful about the 600M, but it is because of the configurations of the machine they bought.

I have a hunch that they bought the entry level model which is the 1.6 ghz with 256 memory, if you try to play a high tech game like Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 or the other new high tech games out there, it will surely blow your machine if it doesn?t have the proper configurations to handle all that graphics. It?s like a balloon, if you bought a balloon that can only handle 10 gallons of water and you stuffed it with 20 gallons of water it will surely burst. Anyhow, I would suggest buying a higher processor and a higher memory so that if and when you run more than one program or game, you won't fry the mother board.

Oh in no way am I an employee of Dell, I have had my share of high blood pressure with their services and products, but overall I give them a 8.5-9!

Hope my input helps... TTYL

On my third 600m

Pros: Works well for my children in school

Cons: Several problems

Review: The first 600m has xp pro 512 ram and has not had any major problems. The second one has 512 ram and xphome. It has had blue screen errors that Dell has not been able to explain, but the computer does work. The Cd/dvd failed and dell sent a new one, it was still under warrenty. The third one I got last week and it was dead out of the box. Also 512 and xp home. Dell tech support diagnosed it as a bad motherboard and is sending me a new one. I hope it works. I complained to several different people and cutomer service gave me a 75 dollar coupon to use for any Dell purchase. After reading the posts, thinking about extended warrenties. Does anyone have an opinion as to whether I need 3 warrenties or if I buy one can I use it on all the machines since they are all the same. I don't see how Dell would know which machine has a problem.

One Busted Motherboard

Pros: Very light, good for travle, and it generates less heat.

Cons: My battery and motherboard died in less than two years!!!

Review: My computer's motherboard just broke. It's just ran out of it's warrenty. From what we seen, a new motherboard would cost almost as much as a new computer! Q: Anyone know where to get a compatible motherboard at a resonable price?

User Rating: 3/10

Had less than 2 years and i have replaced the motherboard two times and the screen just went out

Pros: Fast, i loved the computer when nothing was wrong with it, but something was always wrong with it

Cons: Problems with the motherboard and now screen, also when you call everyone is foreign and hard to understand!

Review: Its a good computer but not the make of it, if you decide to get it I would MAKE SURE TO GET A GOOD WARRENTY ON IT!!!!!! DIDN'T TRUST THE PEOPLE AT DELL!

Ideal travel companion for home=based businessman

Pros: Lightweight, wi-fi equipped, long battery life

Cons: Needs extra RAM; runs a bit warm

Review: I have been very pleased from the get-go and now after a year, I still love it. The wi-fi worked right out of the box. With the optional second battery, I get about 6 hours of running. Dell support is great! I had my first small wireless glitch in the past week, phoned Dell and their special wireless tech people had me back on the network in 5 minutes. It does everything I expected, including graphics, efficiently. It's a winner.

I'm on my third replacement 600m

Pros: light with a decent sized screen (14.1")

Cons: Wireless connection continally drops, proxy servers re-check themselvesa t start-up, usb problems, bluetooth problems

Review: I am not a happy camper. I have spent literally days attempting to resolve issues with Dell. I have a "next business day" service agreement and it took seven business days for a tech to look at my computer and the issue was not resolved. The main issues seem to revolve around faulty motherboard connections.

Good for the price

Pros: thin, light works anywhere. they dropped price to 900 range and you could find coupons to get it down to 700.

Cons: service is outsourced, but manageable. had o argue to get them to send me drivers, but they did in 2 days and gave me a followup call. wouldn't surprise me if keys popped off

Pros: The 600m from Dell is really the way to go if you want to purchase a new Laptop. It has a great graphics card, sound, wireless card, and battery life. The S-Video Out lets you watch DVD's on your TV, and it has all the plugs that you will ever need. Al

Great product, performs well, good battery time.

Read the message boards first

Pros: Weight of the unit and the graphics chip

Cons: Watch the motherboard. If you have to have a Dell, get the 3 year warrenty, the motherboard costs $699 to replace and is has a bad reputation. Price is not competitive compared with Toshiba, HP and Gateway for the features you get.

Okay for me

Pros: Value is the key word. If you pay more than $1000, you paid too much. 512 ram is a must, but buy it elsewhere as long as there is a free slot. Good graphics, but not gaming, very bright screen.

Cons: Soft keyboard, heavy for a 'lightweight'. If you are a first time laptop buyer stay away from this machine, since there is no real tech support, and there are a lot of downloads and updates you will need (bios, video, etc.)

Dell600m

Pros: The m600 is ok but it is not what I expected. It is light weight and portable but I think the quality is not what it could be. For a few extra bucks Dell could of really had a great computer.

Cons: The support system is very lame. I didn't really have a problem all I wanted was a copy of the warrenty that I paid for. I was on the phone for 2 hours and I never received it as they told me it would be mailed out to my home.Something doesn't seem right
