Solve a crime with this gear: tech as seen on TV's CSI
Suzy Brannon

The technology used in the CSI series isn't all Hollywood science. Sure, they can match the DNA of a suspect to a crime scene faster than you can say "Horatio," but those gadgets being used to commit and solve crimes are the real deal. This season has just gotten under way, and already we've seen a lot of tech. The mini OQO palmtop computer made an appearance in CSI: Miami. And there was a witness on CSI who was totally geeking out--he was listening to an iPod Shuffle while playing a PSP. When it comes to the tech in the lab, it's loaded with big Dell LCDs, HP scanners, and Dell and Apple laptops. The CSI: Miami crew arrives at every crime scene in style in their Hummer H2. (Confiscated by the department in a drug bust, perhaps? Surely Miami-Dade County can't afford an H2 for its CSIs--even with David Caruso at the helm.) All those photos taken at the crime scene are done with a Nikon D70s. And the CSIs stay in touch between the lab and the crime scenes with their Nextel i830s. What tech have you uncovered on the CSI series? Let us know at buzz@cnet.com.

Review summary CNET editor's take The Sony PSP elevates portable gaming to the next level, but its multimedia functionality falls short of its full potential. Small improvements fine-tune one of the best digital SLRs in the sub-$1,000 class. The Sony PSP elevates portable gaming to the next level, but its multimedia functionality falls short of its full potential. The iPod Shuffle, with its ultralow price, its dead-simple design, and its iTunes integration, is virtually guaranteed to be a hit, especially among those looking for a second iPod.
