Both H&R Block and Intuit offer thorough tax management software that steps you through filing annual taxes without demanding knowledge of IRS lingo. We found both H&R Block TaxCut 2005 and Intuit TurboTax 2005 to be great packages. The high-end versions of each have strengthened their support for people who run small businesses. We gave TurboTax higher marks overall for its ease of use, especially for its elegant setup interview and help with managing deductions. On the other hand, we assigned TaxCut a better rating for service and support, largely thanks to its promise to assist you at no extra charge--even years later--if the IRS ever audits your return. You can even consult tax pros at H&R Block offices around the country for help. TurboTax, on the other hand, charges extra fees for audit help. If you're dropping the pencil and the calculator for the first time in favor of tax software, we recommend the newbie-friendly TurboTax Premier 2005. But if you already use and enjoy TaxCut, we suggest that you stick with H&R Block's fine program.
