| Shutterbugs' favorite MP3 players | ||||

While color-screen MP3 players are still something of a novelty, enough are available today to add to the confusing array of portable audio devices from which to choose. There are many things to consider in your quest to find the perfect player, but if you're a photographer on the go, those that have full color screens and photo display capabilities should be at the top of your list. But a bright and colorful screen alone doesn't necessarily translate to a photographer's dream device. If you want the perfect musical companion for your camera, look for a device that also has either USB host capabilities, onboard CompactFlash and/or SD card slots, or compatibility with a photo-transferring accessory. The first feature allows direct uploading of images to your MP3 player from a camera, while the second (and speediest) will let you empty your memory card onto the player to make way for the next round of pictures. For the Apple iPod Photo, you'll need the Apple iPod Camera Connector to transfer photos to the player, but it's definitely a worthy investment for shutterbugs.

| Review summary | Digital photo display and subscription-based music support are cool features, but the Gateway MP3 Photo Jukebox's performance leaves much to be desired. | The great-sounding Cowon iAudio X5 looks like an iPod killer on paper, but this palm-size music and video player suffers from mediocre music browsing and some key design missteps. | As did the phased-out H120, the H320 will attract those who value features as well as superior audio playback and recording quality over style. | The iPod Photo is a beautiful and versatile device with a new, affordable price. The 30GB version is a particularly good value at only $50 more than the audio-only 20GB version. | Archos's now classic AV420 laid the foundation for modern PVPs and PVRs. |
