| Waterproof tunes: take this MP3 gear for a swim | ||||

Electronics and water don't mix. At least, that's what's been ingrained in us from the early days of technology, but with the advent of such gear as the waterproof electric razor, as well as the shower clock and radio, we're beginning to see that certain gadgets are just dying for a dip. And if there's anything I like to break the splashy monotony of a day at the pool or on the beach, it's an MP3 player packed with my favorite tunes. Sure, the sound of the surf is relaxing, but so is a playlist packed with your favorite tracks. Just about any MP3 player can accompany you while you laze around the water, but what if you want to get in the water? Thanks to a few pioneering companies, you now have a selection of gadgets that allow you to rock out while fully submersed without the risk of destroying the device or electrocuting yourself. Whether you want a standalone player built for underwater use or an accessory designed for your favorite player, there's something here for you. There are even waterproof cases by H20 Audio for the third- and fourth-generation Apple iPods, though we've only seen the Mini version, the SV iMini.

| Review summary | Oregon Scientific's waterproof MP3 player lets you carry a tune in the pool, but the anemic earbuds drown the fun. | The SwiMP3 could add some fun to your swim routine, if you can afford it--just beware of potential nausea-inducing inner ear imbalance. | CNET editor's take | CNET editor's take | As much as we'd love to take our iPod in the pool, we'd rather swim in silence than carry this overpriced, terrible-sounding accessory. |
