Slider cells: phones with slider designs | ||||
![]() Kent German Senior associate editor | Updated September 30, 2005 Slider cell phones have been coming fast and furious this year, and we expect to see more before 2005 is over. They offer a cool alternative to the usual flip and candy bar models: The screen is always exposed, so you can see who's calling, but the keypad is hidden to avoid misdials. You may also get a kick out of sliding up the phone to take a call, although some mobiles let you answer with the slider closed. Slider phones tend to be higher-end models, and most of the handsets here fit that bill. The Samsung SCH-i730 for Verizon and the Siemens SX66 for Cingular are both slider smart phones with full QWERTY keyboards. Sprint's Samsung MM-A800 has a 2-megapixel camera, while the LG PM-325 is one of few Sprint phones to offer Bluetooth. Finally, for a truly standout mobile, try the stainless-steel GSM Nokia 8800.
