In the world of headphones, there are countless portable models and a quickly growing number of wireless models, but the marriage of the two is in the early stage. Call it the honeymoon period, if you like--only in this case, it's not such a happy time in the relationship. Rather, companies attempting to provide wire-free listening in portable applications are still testing the waters. As such, we've yet to see many portable wireless headphones that offer the right combination of sound quality, comfort, and affordability, but at least some progress is being made. (After all, headphone manufacturers must know that there's a market for this type of product...right?) So far, we've reviewed six 'phones that fall into this new category, and I've rounded them up for you below. Know of a good product that didn't make the list? | Review summary | CNET editor's take | The innovative, Bluetooth-enabled Logitech Wireless Headphones for the iPod are a worthy upgrade for virtually any iPod owner. | The Anycom BSH-100 is comfortable and works OK for phone calls, but constant interference and high-volume distortion make the headphones unsuitable for music listening. | Plantronics's Pulsar 590A Bluetooth headset is a great choice for mobile power users who don't want to sacrifice quality for convenience. | If you're serious about music quality, Creative's CB2530 Bluetooth wireless headphones aren't for you. Although they eliminate pesky wires, they also suffer from lackluster sound quality, frequent sound dropouts, and limited volume output. | Despite a couple design issues (that aren't critical), the NaviPlay by Ten Technology is the best option for iPod users who want to enjoy wireless listening. |
