Mitsubishi's 2005 HDTVs: LCD and DLP in harmony | |

We continue our series looking at major makers' plans for 2005 products with Mitsubishi--and no, we're not talking about cars. The Japanese heavy manufacturing concern also happens to be a heavy hitter with big-screen HDTVs, and its recent line show called a truce of sorts between rival microdisplay technologies LCD and DLP. Whereas many manufacturers focus on one microdisplay technology over another--for instance, Sony with LCD and Samsung with DLP--Mitsubishi has taken a chip-agnostic approach. It differentiates among its myriad 2005 big-screen offerings by charging less for the LCDs, which all use 720p-resolution chips, and more for the DLPs, which incorporate higher-resolution 1080p chips. Below, we compare previews of the 52-inch versions of 2005 LCD and DLP models to 2004's 52-incher, the WD-52525.
