The Wi-Fi camera crew

We're up to the second generation of Wi-Fi-capable snapshot cameras, but it looks as if we're still waiting for some of the breakthrough changes.

A year later, but with only a handful of models having passed through the marketplace, it still feels premature to talk about a wireless revolution in digital imaging. Based on the models we've seen from Kodak, Nikon, and Canon, we're starting to see some of the necessary refinements--in both the interface and the features--but not quite enough to comfortably recommend them to all but the edgiest of consumer snap-shooters. If you simply must have the latest thing, these qualify. Here's how they compare on their cutting-edge capabilities.

Nikon Coolpix P3
Nikon Coolpix P3
Like its older siblings, the P1 and P2, the Nikon Coolpix P3 has a limited Wi-Fi capability and excellent image quality. Better value and quicker performance can be found in the company's nonwireless offerings.

Canon PowerShot SD430
The Canon SD430 is the only consumer-level choice out there for wireless remote shooting and capture, but it's an otherwise average camera.
