| Rhapsody to stay: stream Rhapsody audio to any room in the house | ||||
![]() John P. Falcone, senior associate editor |
With competitors such as Yahoo and Napster, the market for "all you can eat" digital audio subscription services is increasingly crowded. But Real's Rhapsody service continues to impress. The Rhapsody To Go feature lets you transfer thousands of songs of your choice to your compatible portable player for one flat, monthly price. It's a great upgrade, but music lovers who aren't on the go will still appreciate the classic Rhapsody offerings: access to live audio streams that let you customize your own personalized "radio station." Even better, a growing number of network media devices let you enjoy your Rhapsody subscription when you're away from your PC. Just run the Rhapsody application on your computer, set up one of these boxes anywhere in your house where it can access your home network--wired or wireless--and you're in business. Finally, you can maximize your Rhapsody subscription and enjoy the music wherever you are.

| Review summary | The Omnifi DMS1 combines superior wireless stability with solid support for online audio services--except iTunes. | This, the original Sonos Digital Music System, is still a very slick solution for affordably distributing your music throughout your house. But if you already count an amplifier or an A/V receiver as part of your existing music system, the ampless Sonos ZP80 bundle is a better bet. | Cutting-edge features and striking looks put Roku's SoundBridge at the forefront of the digital audio receiver category. | This 802.11g-capable network DVD player supports Rhapsody and streams music, videos, and digital images from your PC, but its irksome flaws turn fun into frustration. | The Linksys WMLS11B streams your digital music to any room in the house, but you'll want to use your own speakers. |
