Wharfedale introduced its original Diamond speaker in 1981 in England, and it made a big splash on our shores a few years later. Back then, the Brits dominated the worldwide market for pricey minimonitors, but the Diamond was heralded as a breakthrough design, mostly because it was the first truly affordable British minispeaker. The current ninth-generation models are not only holding the line on relative affordability, they're built to higher standards than ever before. The Diamond 9 series includes 10 separate speaker models. We focused on 3 of them, plus a matching subwoofer: the Diamond 9.5 tower speakers, the Diamond 9.1 bookshelf/surrounds, the Diamond 9.CS center-channel, and a Wharfedale SW150 subwoofer.
