Yahoo Mail is getting a dramatic makeover that promises faster, sleeker e-mailing.

Face-lift mimics desktop e-mail
The default layout of Yahoo Mail Beta consists of three panes, with folders listed on the left, message headers in a top pane, and a central Reading Pane, as in Outlook. The appearance is identical in both Internet Explorer and Firefox Web browsers. You can grab the edges of panes to resize them and hide the Reading Pane to save space. Tabs allow you to keep multiple messages and folders open at the same time. Ads will appear in the interface later. But unlike Gmail, Yahoo will not use the content of your e-mail messages to create targeted advertising.
