'Doctor Zhivago'
When we first started drawing up this list, a number of readers were unhappy we hadn't included any David Lean films. Well, back then the Lean choices were pretty lean (for a while only "Passage to India" was out on Blu-ray).
Now we've got "River Kwai," "Lawrence of Arabia," and "Doctor Zhivago" on the list, so no one should complain.
"Zhivago" gets high marks for its video quality, though you shouldn't expect the ultrasharp picture of today's films (it's pretty grainy in spots but that's the way the film looked). As far as the sound goes, some critics have said the new surround mix is far from perfect, but fans of this classic won't be disappointed.
