Dear CNET members,
Over many years, going from analog to digital, I have repurchased all my vinyl records and audio tapes on CDs and all my VHS movies on DVDs. Now, that's quite a fortune I've spent, but to me, it's justifiable to move in the direction of the digital age for better quality and portability, as well as longevity. Now the question is, will I be doing same with the direction of movies heading towards HD (high-definition) such as HD DVDs, Blu-ray, or even movie downloads? I've seen the quality of HD DVD and Blu-ray movies, and it is truly awesome! I know how convenient movie download services are, allowing me to watch them on my portable media player. But dang it, I really don't know yet--a few, maybe? For HD movies, I definitely won't upgrade until everyone settles on a format, so for now, I'm sticking with what I have. What about you? Are willing to buy movies in different formats even though you own them on DVD already? Or are you an HD snob, doing so already because you won't have it any other way than HD? The makers of HD DVD, Blu-ray, and movie download services are all banking on the fact that consumers will be willing to buy new versions of movies they already own. Are you willing to repurchase movies you already own on DVD? Some of our members have chimed in tell us what they will be doing.
