Dear CNET members,
I'm sitting here in front of the Apple store, in line, writing this newsletter to you, waiting for my chance to get my hand on the iPhone this coming Friday. Not! Yeah, sure it would be nice to have one, but maybe another day for me. But I know some folks are already lined up right this minute, waiting for the iPhone to be released. The iPhone is probably one of the most anticipated consumer electronic gadgets to date. I mean, six whole months of media attention, hype, praises and bashes, speculation and expectation; you name it and it's been done! Well, this Friday is the moment of truth, folks, when the iPhone lands in the hands of the public for the real-world test. And as much as I really don't care if I ever hear or read another column, blog, or ad on the iPhone, I personally sure as heck want to have a phone in my hand to check out so I can finally judge it for myself! So one last time before it all unfolds--come clean with us and tell us honestly, will you buy an iPhone? Why or why not?
Just a reminder, folks, tomorrow from 11 a.m. to noon Pacific Time, we are hosting another CNET Ask the Editors Live! chat event in the forums. The topic: home audio, featuring senior editor John Falcone, who will answer your questions about home theater systems, AV receivers, surround-sound speakers, and everything in between. Get your questions ready and don't miss it!

This week's hot topic:

Will you buy an iPhone?
Six whole months of high anticipation for the iPhone release is finally coming to end. And now that so much info has been passed along and made public, when we asked our members if they will be buying an iPhone, many--and I mean many--dropped by News.com staff writer Tom Krazit's blog to tell us what their decisions are.
"Closer to YES than undecided"
"The technology sounds great. It's everything I'd like in a combined portable device. Plus, I commute 2 hours to work, and the iPhone should give me decent Web access for reading, without having to lug a laptop. Prior..." (Read more)

"I would if..."
"...it was cheaper and I knew a little more about it. Apple's reluctance to give detailed technical info about it is annoying. Once more info is available, I may change my mind, but the cost will have to come down..." (Read more)
"Not until I get a choice of carriers"
"I'm not as concerned with it being version one. It's an Apple product so it's already better than everyone else's third generation. I just won't be locked into using any one carrier, not even by Apple...." (Read more)
"Yes! Yes! Yes! I will buy one!"
"I think it's going to be a great phone, it looks as though it will fit my needs better than anything else out there and I've shopped around and have had MANY phones. It always makes me laugh to see all of the Apple 'haters'..." (Read more)

"Not till Apple gets with the times..."
"I'm just surprised, really. The iPhone is supposed to be the most technologically advanced phone ever. Yet Apple refuses to upgrade to two simple technologies: CDMA and 3G. Why? Corporate politics and..." (Read more)
Speak up!
Now that you've been grilled and armed with six months of media coverage, tons of columns and blogs, speculation and expectations--and the list goes on--are you personally (not your friend or family member) going to buy an iPhone? Tell us all the reasons why or why not, because we'd like to know.

Exploiting the Web for fun and profit
Gone are e-mail viruses and network worms. Now criminals are attacking the Web sites we frequent. Worse, someone's now selling a tool that makes the process too easy. Given these recent Web attacks, are you taking additional steps to surf the Web safely? If so, what?
Car interfaces and usability
In editor Wayne Cunningham's recent column, "Car interfaces and usability", he evaluated the various car gadget interfaces from Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. What sort of interface do you think works best for controlling navigation, stereo, and other car systems? What car interface works best for you?

Along with discussing the iPhone, CNET members had plenty of new tech products to talk about this week.
Samsung LN-T4665F
CNET member SandhillCemetary says: "The good news is that Samsung has hit a home run with this new 'T' series. The background is completely uniform with no bands or clouds. The black levels are as good as plasmas, with nice detail and no crush. The 'T' series boasts 3 HDMI 1.3 inputs and lots of tweaks available from the main menu..."

Canon PowerShot SD750 Digital ELPH
CNET member geo504 says: "The screen size and brightness are very nice on this camera. One feature I love is if you take a picture and the person has red-eye, you can fix it in the menu after the photo is taken. You can also add effects after the picture is taken, like black-and-white and sepia..."

iRiver Clix (8GB, second generation)
CNET member Mathemusician says: "I have had the good fortune to compare the iPod Nano, Cowon D2, and second-gen Clix side by side, and I have to say, the Clix blew the other two out of the water. I've always found CNET's reviews to be very accurate (most of this is in response to another rating), and would have say that they hit this one dead-on..."
