Cool for school: PDAs for students

Bonnie Cha Bonnie Cha, Senior Associate Editor August 2, 2006

Where has the summer gone? Didn't it seem like just yesterday that you were ditching those schoolbooks and backpacks for a beach towel and flip-flops? But alas, all things must come to an end, and it's time to face the music: school is about to be back in session. However, the process of heading back to class doesn't have to be completely painful. After all, it's a good reason to pick up a couple of new tech toys. We've already picked some gems in our Back to School Gift Guide and provided you with some extra goodies, such as the top 10 Web sites for students and useful downloads. Still, there are more school-worthy gadgets out there. Here, we've rounded up four PDAs that can help you keep track of your new schedule, assignments, and friends. From the very basic and affordable Palm Z22 (perfect for younger kids) to the more advanced Nokia N770 (yes, we weren't enthralled by it but you guys seem to love it), these handhelds make good study aids.

The Bottom Line The reasonably priced Nokia 770 is a neat idea and a slick device, but slow performance and a few missing features keep it from realizing its potential. The Palm Z22 provides an affordable, very basic, and easy-to-use PDA suitable for first-time buyers and technophobes. The Palm TX offers a winning package of wireless connectivity, productivity tools, and fun for users of all kinds.
