Stay on track with our favorite desktop replacement mice

Justin Yu Justin Yu, December 11, 2008

A comfortable mouse that fits your hand and gives you access to all your essential shortcuts is crucial to everyday productivity. Manufacturers like Logitech, Targus, and Microsoft are leading the way in mice technology, combining accurate laser tracking with ergonomically sculpted designs and wireless connectivity. The price of the some of the mice in this round-up might raise a few eyebrows, but remember that you use your input devices (keyboard and mouse) every single time you sit down to use your computer, so it's worth it to spend more to benefit from the added features they provide.

The Bottom Line Logitech's MX 1100 wireless laser mouse is the best in its class thanks to a wide array of features that make navigation easier. You have to pay for all of that capability, but anyone who puts serious time in front of a PC will appreciate what this mouse can do. The Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 7000 isn't cheap, but if you want to go wireless and have an extra $70 lying around, this mouse is certainly an option. If you're going to spend that much, though, we think you'll like Logitech's high-end offering better. Targus' new Wireless Mouse for Mac replaces the scroll wheels and trackballs found on other mice with a clever optical sensor. It takes some getting used to, but is great for four-way scrolling. Microsoft's Arc mouse is almost as functional as its form is pleasing. The travel-friendly features make perfect sense, and in general, it's a serviceable mouse for Macs and PCs. Only a few minor design issues hold it back.
