Cell phone hall of fame: CNET readers' favorite cell phones

Kent German Kent German, Senior Editor August 28, 2008

CNET readers tend to have discriminating tastes when it comes to technology. Since you interact with your gadgets over a long period of time--often a few years--you provide a different perspective for our editors. We update our favorite cell phones every week, but we have to recognize what you like well. Each of these handsets received a user rating of three and a half stars or above from at least 125 readers. Smartphones dominated the list with the AT&T Tilt getting a big nod from 279 readers. Verizon Wireless had three popular phones with the Samsung SCH-i760, the LG Voyager and the LG Dare. And not to be outdone, Sprint can claim two popular handsets with the HTC Touch and the Samsung Instinct.

The Bottom Line The AT&T Tilt promises to be the carrier's most powerful smartphone for business users with its full range of wireless options, Windows Mobile 6, and innovative tilt screen. The Samsung SCH-i760 goes big (literally), delivering a solid set of features and good performance to Verizon customers looking for a business-centric smartphone. Though we had some minor complaints here and there, the Voyager's sleek design, generous feature set and excellent performance make it the best LG messaging and multimedia phone by far. The LG Dare is an innovative and feature-rich handset with several surprises that sets it apart from other touch-screen phones. The HTC Touch cell phone for Sprint boasts an innovative touch screen, a sleek interface, and a nice set of features, but the lack of a sizable keyboard really limits the usability of this device. The Samsung Instinct stands out as one of Sprint's finest devices to date. It's just too bad its call quality could use some improvement.
