Talk like a supermodel: Stylish cell phones

Nicole Lee Nicole Lee, Associate Editor April 18, 2008

Since your cell phone is with you virtually all the time, it's important to pick a handset you'll enjoy using. But even more than that, you'll also want a mobile that you'll like carrying around. After all, cell phones are more than just a communication device--they can echo your personal style. So, if you want a phone to accompany you as you strut down the catwalk of life, check out these slick handsets. The Samsung Armani earns its design house branding with a compact and sexy look, along with a full touch-screen interface and the can't-miss Armani name emblazoned on the front. Next Motorola wows us with the Motorola Z9 from AT&T. It's a sleek slider handset that positively gleams. Speaking of gleaming phones, you can't get much shinier than the LG Glimmer, which combines the flash of a touch-screen interface with the convenience of a slider keypad. Of course, we can't go on without mentioning the CNET Editors' Choice handset, the LG Voyager VX10000, with its touch-screen interface and full QWERTY keyboard that are functional, yet sexy. Nokia also put out the very attractive Nokia Luna 8600 not too long ago, with a smooth steel body and sophisticated slider design. Last but definitely not least, the Apple iPhone rules it all when it comes to style and sheer eye-catching design.

The Bottom Line The Samsung Armani is one supersexy phone but it falls short of perfection due to lackluster features and a tricky user interface. The Z9 may not offer anything new but it's a fine cell phone in all regards. It offers an attractive design, a great feature set, and superb call quality. The LG Glimmer combines the glamour of a touch screen, the convenience of a slider keypad, plus high-end features to produce a top-notch phone for Alltel customers. Though we had some minor complaints here and there, the Voyager's sleek design, generous feature set and excellent performance make it the best LG messaging and multimedia phone by far. The Nokia Luna 8600 is a beauty with good call quality, but we didn't fall for its cramped keyboard and its poor speakerphone quality. Despite some important missing features, a slow data network, and call quality that doesn't always deliver, the Apple iPhone sets a new benchmark for an integrated cell phone and MP3 player.
