The hottest cell phones from Verizon Wireless

Kent German Kent German, Senior Editor December 4, 2007

Verizon Wireless hasn't always had a reputation for offering the slickest cell phones on the market, but over the last couple years it has quickly made up for lost time. It now offers an admirable selection of devices, from high-end handsets to basic models for making calls. Here are some of our current favorites. The LG Voyager is the successor to the LG enV. It features a full touch-screen display plus a QWERTY keyboard, and a rich array of multimedia features. We liked it so much that we even gave it an Editors' Choice. The LG Venus is a multimedia-friendly slider phone with a unique dual-screen display that has touch-screen navigation controls. LG also impressed us with its LG VX8350. Though it doesn't have the flashiest design, it's a powerful multimedia handset with great call quality. For smartphone fans, the Samsung SCH-i760 is a good bet. It offers a slider design with a full alphabetic keyboard, integrated Wi-Fi, support for Verizon's 3G network, and satisfying performance. And in case you just want to make calls, Verizon hasn't forgotten you. The Pantech PN-300 is simple and functional, but it does what a cell phone should do, and it does it well.

The Bottom Line Though we had some minor complaints here and there, the Voyager's sleek design, generous feature set and excellent performance make it the best LG messaging and multimedia phone by far. The LG Venus is a beautiful slider phone with a great feature set, but we would recommend taking the time to get used to the unusual touch-screen controls. The LG VX8350 is an excellent multimedia phone that's compact as well as powerful. The Samsung SCH-i760 goes big (literally), delivering a solid set of features and good performance to Verizon customers looking for a business-centric smartphone. While the Verizon Wireless PN-300 won't wow anyone with its design or feature set, we really liked its simplicity and ease of use. The great sound quality makes this a good phone for those who just want a phone to make calls.
