New Verizon Wireless phones

Nicole Lee Nicole Lee, Associate Editor October 8, 2009

Though Verizon Wireless is lacking in "big name" handsets like the Apple iPhone or the Palm Pre, it does have excellent phones in its lineup. The carrier recently announced a slew of new phones for the holiday season--from the basic phone to the fancy smartphone. Verizon hopes to capture every segment of the cell phone market with its lineup.

The HTC Imagio is the best of the lot, and it's the first Verizon smartphone to come with Windows Mobile 6.5, as well as the first Verizon smartphone with V Cast Mobile TV, Verizon's live TV service. It has a gorgeous AMOLED display, world phone capabilities, and other multimedia features as well. There are also two Motorola phones, with two decidedly different feature sets--the Entice is more of a basic multimedia phone while the Barrage is a rugged push-to-talk handset. Also announced was the Verizon Wireless Razzle and the Nokia 2705 Shade, which we have not yet reviewed. Look forward to those reviews shortly.

The Bottom Line The HTC Imagio is rich with both multimedia and business features, making it a great all-in-one smartphone for the Verizon globetrotter. The Motorola Entice makes for a decent midrange multimedia phone, especially if you care about call quality. The Motorola Barrage offers Verizon Wireless customers a rugged push-to-talk phone with admirable call quality.
