Rhapsody-friendly MP3 players

Jasmine France Jasmine France, Senior Associate Editor May 11, 2009

If subscription music was a drug, I'd be one of its biggest pushers. I'm a huge proponent of paying a flat monthly fee in order to enjoy all the music I want at any time (and in any order...without commercials). It's even better if you can take as much of it as possible with you anywhere on an MP3 player. A handful of services and devices offer this option. You can pair Zune Marketplace with the Zune player, or choose from a seemingly endless array of other non-iPod MP3 players and sync up with Napster To Go or Rhapsody To Go. Of course, the best devices are going to be the ones gussied up with onboard software specifically made to work with a particular service.

The following MP3 players are designed with Rhapsody DNA, an integrated software that lets them support Rhapsody's DRM-managed music files as well as Rhapsody's unique Channel feature. Rhapsody users who subscribe to Rhapsody Channels automatically receive new music curated by Rhapsody's staff based around genre preferences. It's a great way to discover new music without having to lift a finger. Each of the devices listed has a dedicated menu option for Rhapsody Channels, and some even let you decide what Channel content you'd like to keep on the device and what content can go. So, if you're an existing Rhapsody subscriber or you're thinking about trying a subscription music service, these MP3 players will help you get the most bang for your buck.

The Bottom Line The Haier America Ibiza Rhapsody is a cutting-edge media player that puts its wireless capabilities to good use while still retaining an easy-to-use design and interface. If you're willing to shell out the dough for a massive feature list, give it consideration. The SanDisk Sansa Fuze is a great value; a slim design, a simple interface, plentiful features, memory expansion capability, and solid sound quality all come with an easy-to-swallow price tag. Thanks to excellent sound quality, integrated noise-canceling functionality, and several smart music sorting options, the Sony S-Series Walkman is a superb choice for music aficionados. The SanDisk Sansa Clip is an incredible value that's set to edge out the competition with a user-friendly interface, gym-worthy design, and great sound quality. The GoGear Aria is a useful MP3 player that makes a great match for Rhapsody subscribers. It won't turn any heads, but it won't break the bank, either. The Samsung T10 won't satisfy audio purists, but users who value lots of features, a fun interface, and a player that will turn heads should give it a look.
