Superstylish headphones

Jasmine France Jasmine France, Senior Associate Editor August 13, 2007

No doubt sound quality and comfort are the top two priorities when it comes to headphone selection, but that doesn't mean you should overlook style. A fashionable pair of earphones can be as much of an accessory as a necklace or earrings--and who really wants to look like they belong to the cult of the white earbuds? Not I, that's for certain. To that end, I've rounded up some of my favorite fashion-forward 'phones for style-conscious rockers.

Numbers one--and two and three--all come from V-Moda, a fledgling earphone manufacturer that puts an emphasis on style, whether it's low-profile chrome accenting (as with the Vibe) or bright, in-your-face color that pops (such as found in the various iterations of the Bass Freq). Next up is a selection harkening back to the old school, when vinyl ruled and speaker boxes were made of wood--like the Audio-Technica ATH-EW9s. Finally, for those who don't want a wire running down their front, sullying their flawless "look", there's the Logitech FreePulse wireless headphones.

The Bottom Line The V-moda Vibe headphones are a great option for style-conscious bass-addicts looking for some worthy portable headphones. V-Moda's Bass Freq earphones are the perfect accessory for bass-loving Creative Zen Micro owners who are on a budget. If you prefer less low end, look elsewhere. These headphones are ideal for second-gen Nano owners who want earbuds that match their player, but style-conscious on-the-go users will appreciate the V-Moda Remix M-class earphones' sleek look and low price. Audio-Technica's ATH-EW9 clip-on headphones combine graceful looks and sonics, but they won't rock your world. Compared to the range of options out there for Bluetooth MP3 player headphones, the Logitech FreePulse Wireless Headphones offer exceptional design and value.
