TomTom GO 930 GPS |
3 Your typical GPS unit, the 930 is mostly screen. The included mounting clamp is subpar, and I would prefer an external volume knob instead of having to dig through menus. |
3 The TomTom is an attractive unit, but its glossy finish is a fingerprint and grease magnet. The suction cup was difficult to mount and remove from the glass and even more difficult to attach with one hand. |
5 Although the TomTom GO 930 is slightly thicker than the Nuvi 880, I like its overall look and feel better. The curved edges and all-black casing are attractive. Plus, I like the soft-touch finish and the GO 930 has a solid construction. |

Garmin Nuvi 880 |
4 I give the Nuvi 880 a better score for its mounting clamp, but it also lacks an external volume knob. Both units have a solid feel. |
5 I like the Garmin's satin finish, gunmetal color, and slim pocketability. The suction cup for windshield mounting is beefy and integrates the power cable for easy one-handed attachment and detachment. |
4 The Garmin Nuvi 880 is a slick portable navigation device, to be sure. The slimness is nice and makes it easy to take on trips. Plus, the bright, 4.3-inch screen makes maps easy to read. My only worry is the plastic casing, which seems less durable than the GO 930. |
