Round 2: Sexiness

Looks, size, pimp-factor
Apple iPod Nano (fourth generation, 8GB, silver)

In round 2, we focus on the players' size and design, as well as any additional pimp-factor that makes the user feel extra cool. Is it ever possible to out-sexy Apple's design? If you're buying an MP3 player for your significant other, this may be the most important round of all.

As always with gadgets, thin is in, and the Nano knows how to pull it off. Plus, it gets points for its slightly larger screen and literal rainbow of color options.

As a guy, last year's square Nano felt a little too cute for me. This year, the Nano's bladelike form is much more space-age and guy-friendly.
5

Sexiest device in its class, hands down. Lots of purty colors. Apple made the right move going back to the candy-bar design, smoothing the edges, and getting rid of the chub.

Microsoft Zune (third generation, 16GB, black)

I dig the Zune's utilitarian look and earthy color tones, but the screen could be bigger. Maybe it's more cute than sexy.

The custom etchings available through Zune Originals are cool, but the overall design of the flash Zune is plain boring. I still can't look at the controls without thinking of Mickey Mouse's head.
4

Design is standard, and I don't get the color choices...Blah. It's still comfortable to hold, and it tells you something that Apple went back to a design that just works.
