You're still paying a premium for good HD quality, so at these prices, why should you have to sacrifice capabilities, such as manual controls or input and output options? You shouldn't.

Canon Vixia HF10 |
4 Not only does Canon manage to keep a full complement of ports and jacks on the camcorder (without relegating them to a dock), but it also offers basic manual controls over shutter speed and iris and a longer 12x zoom lens. |
4 It's always nice to see a mic input on a camera in this price range and the slightly longer lens gives the Canon an edge over the Sony that is only bolstered by the HF10's manual controls. |

Sony Handycam HDR-CX7 |
2 Sony's dubiously useful 5.1 surround recording and as-yet unproven x.v.Color technology doesn't compensate for a lack of manual controls and headphone and microphone jacks. Furthermore, despite the "Full HD" logo on the camcorder, the CX7 records at 1440x1080. |
2 If only x.v.Color offered a difference as big as its hype. |
