Which type of file compression should I use on my digital camera to get the best quality?

You'll really get the best photo quality in raw mode. You'll probably prefer to shoot compressed JPEGs, however, so select the quality option that produces the largest file. Most manufacturers put a chart in the camera's manual that lists compression and resolution combinations, with resulting file sizes. For any given resolution, the bigger the file, the better the quality.
