Q
I'm considering purchasing the new 20GB iPod. I am wondering if I will be able to rip music directly from CDs to the iPod without downloading the tracks to my computer's hard drive first.

Don't buy an iPod if you need to rip music directly from a CD or any other source. The iPod lacks a built-in encoder.

You're not out of luck, though, as many high-capacity hard drive players on the market feature real-time line-in encoding or recording.
