Camcorder for catching fish October 8, 2004

I'm looking for an affordable (around $400 to $500) MiniDV camcorder that has an optional, effective underwater casing. I'm going scuba diving near California and am looking for something to use while I'm in the ocean. Any recommendations?

The Sony Handycam DCR-HC40 is currently our top budget camcorder. It records video on MiniDV cassettes, and it captures 1-megapixel stills and MPEG-1 video on Memory Stick Duo media. You can find it online for less than $500.
You can find hard-case underwater housings for this model from companies such as Amphibico, but they are relatively expensive; a good alternative is a soft-sided bag design such as one from Ewa-Marine.
