The bad news is that most great gaming laptops are pretty expensive and pretty heavy. One of our favorites, the Dell Inspiron XPS Extreme Edition, tips the scales at 9 pounds--too heavy to haul around on a daily basis.
The good news is that today's great gaming laptops are significantly lighter than the cream of the crop from a few years back, and we expect that trend to continue. CNET hasn't reviewed a laptop that fits your requirements exactly, but the 6.6-pound Acer Aspire 2020, while a bit more expensive than your target price point, offers smoking performance and five hours of battery life.
