CD MP3 players vs. MP3 players
February 1, 2005
Q
I have recently seen many advertisements for CD players that will play both standard audio CDs and MP3 audio CDs. Where can I purchase these MP3 CDs, which hold as many as 10 regular CDs, and what do I need to burn these CDs? I have been looking around for quite some time to find information on these new CD formats, but have not been able to find anything pertinent. Can you help?

MP3 CD players have been around for a while now. A few years ago, they were an affordable answer to expensive, low-capacity flash players and even more pricey (and clunky) hard drive players. You could burn as many 700MB CDs full of MP3s as you wanted and listen to them on a portable CD player. It's still the most economical method of listening to MP3s on the road, although the players are bulky by today's MP3 standards. Check out iRiver's $130 SlimX 450 or better yet, try a Sony or a Panasonic MP3 CD model--they both retail for less than $60.
