Q
What computer would you start a 5-and-a-half-year-old on? Is it OK to start him this early? His kindergarten uses Apples starting next year.

With close supervision, there's no reason why you can't get your kids started on computers that young. You can find software geared toward children as young as 12 months and even more for 5-and-a-half-year-olds. Interestingly, the issues about choosing between Macs vs. Windows-based PCs are the same for kids as they are for adults: Macs are easier to use, but PCs have a wider selection of software and accessories. Your best bet is to choose the platform you're most comfortable with; that way you'll be best equipped to provide assistance.
