Regular phones vs. VoIP
Round 3: Voice quality
Can you repeat that?

In most of our tests with VoIP, the call quality was indistinguishable from POTS. In some instances, the quality was even much better than with a regular phone line. But from time to time, we experienced occasional minor voice artifacts and dropouts, as you might experience on some long-distance calls on regular phones.
But if your Internet service is a little squirrelly or you are constantly uploading and downloading stuff to and from the Web, you might experience more errors than we did in our tests.
From where we're standing, however, unless you have a severely overtaxed broadband connection, voice quality isn't an issue you need to worry about when deciding whether to switch to VoIP. This round is too close to call.
