How this homeowner tackled his need for great home entertainment.
By Steven Castle
Photography by Tony Scarpetta
Jeff Dyke thought he knew what he was getting into when he began overseeing the construction of his family's new 12,000-square-foot house in Maine. The construction had started. The house was being framed. And Jeff figured he knew some things about the technology he wanted in his home. "I've always been into stereos, TVs, and car audio systems," he says, "so I knew if I were to build a house like this, the electronic components would be an important part of the plans." He called on Steve Hayes and the crew at Custom Electronics in nearby Falmouth. "He came in very early," Hayes says, in comparison with many who wait until days before the walls are ready to be closed before considering their home-electronics options. "They had the place framed up and most of the rooms laid out." So Custom Electronics wired the home and recommended the audio and video systems that would make Jeff's home entertainment dreams come true. And along the way, Jeff's excitement for the project grew. "I decided to add more bells and whistles and ended up doubling what we had budgeted within the first month," he recalls. See this slide show
