Ditching your landline phone

Q
I am considering consolidating my cell and landline phones. What do you think of the idea of just using my mobile as my only phone? I think it would be much cheaper if I were to do so. I've read about a type of telephone base unit that you can plug your cell phone into, then use a regular handset for all calls. Have you seen any products such as this?

Using a cell phone as your primary phone line is becoming increasingly common. I think as long as you can get adequate reception in your home and don't make many international calls, you can make it work. And yes, it can be cheaper than paying two phone bills. Just be sure to include enough minutes in your plan to cover all your calls, and be sure you get free long distance with your mobile carrier (most do). If you're looking for a cell phone docking system, we have reviewed three models: the RCA Cell Phone Docking System, the CellAntenna CellDock 1000, and the Motorola SD4500. RCA's product is the better of the three, in our opinion.
