Two cell phones with the same number
July 12, 2006
Q
Is there a way for GSM phones to have two phones that work with the same number? I have two phones and use one for work and a handset for outside of work. Can both phones have the same phone number without swapping SIM cards?

Sorry, Aviyam, you're a bit ahead of your time on this one. While you'd think cell phones would have this capability, especially since they can play music and take pictures, at present, it's not possible to have two handsets tied to the same phone number in the United States. Some carriers in Singapore and Europe offer this functionality, however. While you may find it inconvenient to switch your SIM card between your two phones, that's what you'll have to do for now. Conversely, phones are available that accommodate two SIM cards. They aren't offered by a U.S. carrier, but they are available in Europe.
