iPod FM tuner and speaker systems

Q
James, quick question. I'm looking to finally get an iPod, and one thing I can't figure out is this: with the new Apple Hi-Fi (or any of the existing speaker systems, like the im7), can we hear FM radio by using the iPod FM radio adapter that Apple/Jobs introduced a month or two ago? Thanks!

Thanks for the e-mail, and good question. The answer is yes and no. Let's start with no. The iPod Radio Remote plugs into the dock connector on the latest iPods, so it won't work seamlessly with speaker systems such as the new iPod Hi-Fi and the Logitech mm50, which require the dock connector for audio and control. If you don't mind the iPod not being docked into the speakers, you can always connect the iPod's headphone jack into the speakers' line input (found on most models but not on the Bose SoundDock) to listen to FM.
