CNET Top 10: Top 10 products of 2005

Top 10 products of 2005

By Suzy Brannon (December 9, 2005)

CNET editors reviewed hundreds of products in 2005. And while it's fun to laugh at the worst of them, it's the top products everybody cares about. But which were the best? The following 10 are the cream of the crop that came through the CNET offices.

#1. 2006 BMW 750Li
[Editors' rating: 9.0 out of 10]

2006 BMW 750Li When you pay top dollar for something, you want it to deliver. Our highest-rated product of 2005 definitely delivers--and definitely costs a pretty penny. Delivering in prestige, perception, performance, and comfort, the luxurious and technologically tricked out BMW 750Li truly is the ultimate driving machine.

#2. 2006 Audi S4
[Editors' rating: 9.0 out of 10]

2006 Audi S4 CNET began reviewing cars and covering car tech in 2005, so it's fitting that three cars made it onto this list. The 2006 Audi S4 actually tied the 2006 BMW 750Li for the top position. It rings in with a lower sticker price than the 750Li and pairs a masculine look with the muscle-car practice of stuffing a larger car's V-8 under a smaller car's hood.

#3. Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II
[Editors' rating: 8.9 out of 10]

Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II When it comes to dSLRs, nothing can beat Canon's EOS 1Ds Mark II. It offers a wealth of features and the highest resolution of any small-format digital SLR (try 16.7 megapixels), but it unfortunately has a price to match. While this isn't your amateur photographer's dSLR, it has set a new benchmark for performance and image quality, earning it an Editors' Choice award and the second spot on our list of top-rated products of 2005.

#4. Logitech Cordless Desktop MX3100
[Editors' rating: 8.8 out of 10]

Logitech Cordless Desktop MX3100 Wireless is the only way to go. And this is the best wireless keyboard and mouse setup our editors saw in 2005. It has tons of multimedia controls built into the keyboard, and the mouse has eight programmable buttons. It works great as a plug-and-play device and is also easy to customize.

#5. Sony KDS-R60XBR1
[Editors' rating: 8.8 out of 10]

Sony KDS-R60XBR1 Expensive tech isn't always good, but as we're learning from this list, good tech is often expensive. Such is the case with this 60-inch Sony HDTV. Relatively speaking, though, due to its exceptional image quality and features and lower price when compared to its similar counterpart, this TV is a great deal for TV lovers.

#6. Sony XAV-A1
[Editors' rating: 8.7 out of 10]

Sony XAV-A1 Don't be fooled by the Sony XAV-A1's ordinary in-dash CD player appearance. After all, if that's all this gadget was, it wouldn't be on our list! At the press of a button, a seven-inch LCD monitor is revealed, which acts as a touch-screen monitor as well as a screen for watching DVDs and JPEG slide shows or playing video games. In addition to supporting nearly every media format, it also has a dedicated XM radio connector. This player allows you to hook up everything to your car but the kitchen sink.

#7. Sony PSP
[Editors' rating: 8.7 out of 10]

Sony PSP Hype can get a gadget only to its release date. Thankfully, the PSP--one of the most-hyped gadgets of 2005--delivered upon release. It pairs slick design with a wide-screen display, built-in Wi-Fi, a Web browser, and MP3 and video playback, to make the PSP so much more than a portable gaming device.

#8. 2006 Infiniti M35x 8
[Editors' rating: 8.7 out of 10]

2006 Infiniti M35x 8 The third car rounding out our list--the 2006 Infiniti M35x--claims to be the most technologically advanced car to date. And our editors couldn't disagree.

#9. Logitech MX518 gaming-grade optical mouse
[Editors' rating: 8.7 out of 10]

Logitech MX518 gaming-grade optical mouse If you're right-handed and a gamer, this Logitech mouse is for you! You can adjust its sensitivity and customize its buttons, and it has a comfortable grip. See, mice can be exciting too!

#10.Denon S-301
[Editors' rating: 8.7 out of 10]

Denon S-301 Rounding out this year's top-rated products of 2005 is Denon's 2.1-channel HTIB. It isn't your ordinary home theater in a box, and that's why it won an Editors' Choice award and made it onto this list. It's stylish, has superb sound, has every home-theater bell and whistle you could want, has an HDMI digital-video output, and can play songs from any iPod or MP3 player.
