With the beta of Apple's Boot Camp (free download here) you can run Windows XP natively on an Intel-based Mac. Apple has stated that all of its desktops and laptops will adopt Intel processors by the end of the year, and the company is well on its way. There are currently two desktops and three laptops that use either Intel Pentium Core Duo or Core Solo CPUs: the all-in-one iMac; the tiny, à la carte Mac Mini; the PowerBook's successor, the MacBook Pro (in two sizes); and the just-announced MacBook. (Power Macs still use PowerPC G5 processors.) Read our updated reviews and our first impression of Boot Camp in action.

Review summary Apple's Intel-based iMac Core Duo boasts an enviable combination of a first-rate design, an impeccable software bundle, and the newfound ability to run Windows in addition to Mac OS X. You simply won't find a more feature-packed, versatile mainstream computer. Apple packs more media-specific features into the Mac Mini to make an inexpensive and useful entertainment-room computer. It's tremendously easy to use, although it surprised us with poor image processing. The MacBook Pro delivers unparalleled style, a solid set of features and software, and a few transitional performance issues that keep it from rivaling the most powerful PC laptops. With a solid array of components, a terrific set of features, and the lightest weight of any laptop its size, Apple's 17-inch MacBook Pro is a power user's dream, but it doesn't come cheap. With the MacBook, Apple has corrected a handful of the iBook's shortcomings, hit a reasonable price point, and delivered a laptop that makes a great compromise between size and portability.
