Unless you're in and out of airports for most of each month, a desktop is a better long-term investment for your business than a laptop. You'll get more performance for the price in a desktop PC, and the ability to make simple upgrades over time will help stretch your dollar even further. Whether your design shop needs a powerhouse PC for high-end graphics work or you need an affordable workhorse for your home office, a business system should feature a well-designed case, making upgrades or repairs as painless as possible, especially if you act as your own IT staff. And should you run into a problem that requires professional help, the PC should come with a warranty that provides round-the-clock phone and online support, as well as quick turnaround time for any necessary repairs or replacements. Whether you are looking for one system or you require a fleet of managed PCs, start off by seeing the systems we've reviewed most recently.

Review summary The competitively priced OptiPlex GX620 is powerful enough for most business users, and its wide-ranging configuration options, including four case choices, mean it can fill a variety of office needs. The MPC ClientPro 365's poor performance overshadows its sharp 17-inch flat-panel display and excellent warranty. Strong performance, excellent service, and quiet operation combine to make the Dell OptiPlex GX280 a good fit for busy offices. Whether at home or the office, the Dimension 4700C packs the right mainstream feature set into its slim case, and its PCI Express interface gives it more flexibility. HP knows how to build solid, well-supported business machines, but look past the HP dx5150 if performance is your chief concern.
