Microsoft has finally raised the curtain on its 64-bit version of
Windows. You can take immediate advantage of the new OS if you have a PC
with either an AMD Athlon 64 processor or an Intel Pentium 4 600 series
chip. AMD's Athlon 64 line, introduced in 2003, spans all classes of PC,
from budget systems such as the eMachines T6212 to gaming rigs such as
Alienware's ultra-high-end Aurora ALX SLI. This past February, Intel
released its first 64-bit desktop chips with the Pentium 4
600 series. Like the Athlon 64, Pentium 4 600 chips run 32-bit
software with the ability to make the leap to the world of 64-bit
computing. In addition to more powerful software, the advantage of a
64-bit platform is that you can exceed the current 4GB memory maximum of
32-bit PCs. If you are clamoring for 64-bit Windows, here are five PCs
that'll run Microsoft's new OS.
