How to:
Customize Pocket PC system sounds
Are you tired of those little sounds that your Pocket PC emits every time a folder opens, an appointment pops up, or the syncing process completes? Well, it's easier than you think to create completely customized sounds for your handheld, with a little help from a few imported WAV files.

The first thing that you want to do is to procure a WAV file. You can download one from the Internet, but you should keep the file short; you don't want the complete version of "The Star Spangled Banner" playing every time you sync. Put the WAVs on your Windows Desktop and rename them with descriptive titles such as SyncingStart or Meeting1.

If you'd like to create your own sounds, you can do so by pushing the record button on your handheld. This will bring up the Notes screen. Press and hold the record button to capture your sound. Once you're finished, tap and hold on each of the filenames; they'll be named Recording1, Recording2, and so on. Then, select Rename/Move from the pop-up menu and retitle the files as above.

If the WAV files are on your Windows desktop, browse to the Windows folder on your Pocket PC. The path should be Mobile Device > My Pocket PC > Windows. Once you're there, go back to your desktop and drag the WAV file or files into the Windows folder.

If you recorded your own WAVs, you will see the renamed sound files in the Mobile Device folder once you click ActiveSync's Explore button. Copy the WAVs, browse to Mobile Device > My Pocket PC > Windows, and paste them in.

On your Pocket PC, tap Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications; then hit the Notifications tab at the bottom of the screen. Select an event in the first drop-down menu, then click the next menu to choose your new sound. You may test the audio by pressing the little play button below the second drop-down menu. Repeat this process for any events that you'd like to reassign a sound to.

Step 5

You're done--your Pocket PC is fully customized with the sounds that you like.
